Pinephone + AOSP Mental Model

Hello everyone.
Trying to wrap my head around the Android Open Source Project and the pieces that come together to make it work on specific devices. The image attached is my current mental model of how Android can be built. With this thread I am looking to:
1. refine/restructure the mental model it if it needs it, and
2. understand better if "vendor blobs" are the only thing one needs to make AOSP work on any given device or if more is needed.
Eventually the bigger picture question I have is whether one could build "vanilla" AOSP from source and use it on a Pinephone or whether other pieces are still missing in that architecture to make it work that I have not understood/accounted for.
Thank you!
(mmmm... I can't upload images from my machine on a post?)
Ok here's a link I guess: https://ibb.co/CPF0MHt

Weird magnetometer values

While reading the data from the magnetometer I have noticed weird/inconsistent values between a BH edition and CE edition.
Weird: Laying the phone on a table and turning it 360 degrees I would've expected the reported values to be in an interval [-MAX, MAX]
But as it turns out the values never cross 0.
I assume I'm picking up magnetic fields induced by flowing currents inside the pinephone itself?
Inconsistent: Doing the same kind of measurements in the same environment (same room, same position on the table) I get different readings for the v1.1 and the v1.2 phones.
I assume changes in the PCB could be the reason for this discrepancy.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be going wrong here?
See this issue.
If some of you could provide some readouts from the script I linked in the gitlab issue I would be much obliged :)
Background: I thought about making a compass app, but for that I would need to be able to find the north/south pole

multi-touch limits?

tl;dr - what are the limits on multi-touch for the PinePhone?
I'm interested in supporting braille input on a PinePhone. Ideally, the user should be able to activate every possible dot in the braille cell. For six-dot braille, this would use three fingers on each hand; eight-dot braille would use four fingers on each hand. So, how many simultaneous locations can the PinePhone support?

Main Website News Posts - Font really light-grey on white |

Hi,
I wasn't sure the best place to post this, but I wanted to mention that I'm having issues with eye-strain reading through the main news posts, like this one:
https://www.pine64.org/2020/07/24/all-ab...ab-update/
It's a really light-grey font that is used, on a white background. The contrast ratio seems really poor.
Jumping into the Firefox inspector, I'm seeing color is #7a7a7a; - coming from the global.css file
Code: .elementor-widget-text-editor {
color:#7a7a7a;
font-family:"Roboto", Sans-serif;
font-weight:400;
}
My recommendation would be to use competely black, #111 - I tried adjusting this in Firefox and found it much easier to read.
I'm happy to help out with updating the CSS if there's any way I can assist?
Regards, Jay T

Mobian phone too hot

I just got my CE PinePhone last week. I enjoyed UT and now I tried Debian.
Man, the temperature of the phone using Debian is very scary. I read in the forum that was before but now it shouldn't be that hot. I assume I have the last release of Debian since I just installed 2 days ago, and the temperature is very very high. It wasn't like that using UT.
If I can get a video frying an egg on mobian I will post it
So, something wrong here

Best current OS

Would it be possible for some of the community members who are actively testing the latest iterations of each OS to actively post their opinions here as to the best current OS at any present time. Rather than listing all the features of each, a simple updated live vote or ranked order of OS based solely on Functionality, stability and Maturity.
The objective being to give other members a solid chance at running a daily driver at any point. I for one wouldn't mind switching OS every few months when one surpasses another if the phone ultimately works better, so lets focus on current specs as opposed to potential.

I know many of you were disappointed by the lack of PineTab news in the Community Update earlier this month.
I am therefore pleased to inform that I have just posted a dedicated update for the PineTab, which details what has been going on with the PineTab manufacture and what the shipping process is looking like.

"spine-less" tab as phone dock?

Since the phone and tablet have the same processor, could you remove the motherboard from the tab and just use the phone with the tab screen & keyboard? Keep the battery, and maybe some storage in the tab, but main storage and processor runs in phone... The biggest challenge would be a clean interface (i.e. not just the phone laying on the desk with a cable) that was upgradable. (Maybe a clip-on mount) That way when the next gen phone is released you could still use the tab.
I've been wanting something like this for years, but every option has been poorly executed.
