  Video Out not working
Posted by: BenniTec - 10-07-2021, 12:13 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (7)

Hello,

I have the PinePhone (3GB) with the Convergence Pack, which has the USB-C dongle.
It runs Manjaro ARM Plasma Mobile, but I also tried the Phosh Edition with no success.
Unfortunately I can't get any video output working.
I already tried it with 2 TVs and 1 monitor.
On the first try with Plasma Mobile the screen flickered and I got at least some visual feedback from the TV that it was connected to
but on subsequent tries nothing happened.
When connecting to a display, the display recognizes that something is connected, but don't even try to switch to a resolution.
I'm gonna post the dmesg output later, since the Pinephone is charging now.

Kernel Version: 5.14.10-1-MANJARO-ARM
Plasma Version: 5.22.5

GDM3 Receiving call on login screen
Posted by: d-.-b - 10-07-2021, 11:04 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Hello from a new and happy Canadian owner of a Pinephone.

I'm really impressed so far and I tried some distros. My choice is now Mobian and I installed Gnome Shell. I tried to find the answer to my question with no luck therefore, I'm asking in here.

Is there a way to answer a phone call from the login screen without having to actually log in user session? I really dont have the time to login with the password when the phone rings and, I miss the call. In GDM3.

Thank you all and long live to Pinephone!

Booted Phosh 16 Beta once and now won't boot
Posted by: ragreenburg - 10-07-2021, 08:57 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (3)

I downloaded the Phosh 16 Beta yesterday and played around with it for a bit then when I went to boot it up this morning it would vibrate, show the notification light turn on then go black. I left it for about 10 minutes to see if maybe it was booting up but the screen was just dim and nothing happened. I tried booting into it 4-5 times with the same result. Anyone else experiencing this?

Waydroid on Manjaro 16 - how to launch
Posted by: stozi - 10-07-2021, 07:21 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (4)

I'm following these guides:

https://fossingularity.wordpress.com/202...h-beta-15/
and
https://waydro.id/ (scroll down)

so on the first guide, "sudo waydroid-start" says command doesn't exist,

but going to the second guide, "sudo waydroid init" seems to work, but "sudo waydroid container start" and "waydroid session start" seem to get stuck, and subsequently, "waydroid app install whatever.apk" doesn't work either.

was editing boot.txt perhaps an outdated step? Any tips?

  Installed Apps not opening
Posted by: mmd604 - 10-06-2021, 08:27 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (5)

I have installed apps through the software application and have noticed that some apps do not open.  Specifically Pidgin I click on the app and it looks like its going to open but it just hangs.  Anybody else experience this ?

  Response time
Posted by: generaluser - 10-06-2021, 06:52 PM - Forum: PinePhone Software - No Replies

Now that I managed to get the multi-boot demo image working on an sdcard I have bounced through all distros it came with.

I am curious, how is sailfish os able to get smooth ui response compared to others?

I get all functions I need (so far) from pos phosh but it does have some noticeable delays when just getting around.

  Updating Phosh from Gitlab
Posted by: ragreenburg - 10-06-2021, 03:09 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (2)

I went to download a recent merge request of Phosh because it added splash screen support, which I think it huge. When trying to install all the deb packages though I get an error that it conflicts with Squeekboard, anyone have an idea on how to get around that? Below is the link to the deb files, I installed them all aside from `phosh-osk-stub` and `phosh-osk-stub-dbgsym` with `phosh-osk-stub-dbgsym` depending on `phosh-osk-stub` and that conflicting with squeekboard.

Plasma Mobile - How supposed to change screen brightness?
Posted by: KNERD - 10-06-2021, 01:11 PM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (11)

When booting up with Plasma Mobile, the screen brightness is set to minimum.

Looking at the action menu at the top, I can find two icons which look like any other ions of suns indicating brightness. In this case there is no slider, and pressing on the icons does nothing.

Any ideas?

Thanks

  Aftermarket Pine Phone Batteries
Posted by: Katsujinken - 10-06-2021, 11:59 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (8)

Hello again Everyone,
I've been using my new Pine Phone since the weekend and I have been very pleased with it. That being said, a longer lasting battery would be nice. I have no doubts that the community will continue optimizing software for minimal power consumption. In the meantime, are there any aftermarket batteries available in the J7 form factor with greater capacity?

I'm hoping something like that exists and Pine64 was just trying to keep prices down with the included battery. I remember there was this YouTube video where he finds batteries compatible with his iPhone 7 but with greater storage from Chinese street vendors and the J7 is a fairly common type itself.
https://youtu.be/faLaueR-Pgk

It'd be worth it for people like myself who use their Pine Phones as daily drivers to pay for a premium battery

So far though all I've found is this Reddit thread where they say they found a "replacement" and one of the replies mentions a "fat" battery which will work at the cost of the Pine Phone's back casing not fitting overtop.
https://www.reddit.com/r/PINE64official/...nd_tested/

Alternatively has anyone modeled a 3D printable larger back casing that can house a fat battery?

  Preload
Posted by: Fish - 10-06-2021, 11:27 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (5)

Has anyone used "preload" on the pinephone? (link: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Preload)
With preload the startup time of programs should be reduced, in exchange for a little bit more ram-usage. And I can imagine that it costs a little bit of battery.
I have tried it (on mobian) for a day and it seems to work. I have not done any measurements, but will compare with my 2nd pinephone soon.

I'm curious whether other people have tried "preload", or maybe can benefit from it.
