I saw this article where it says 25 dollar target price. I'm generally not a smart watch guy personally. Yet at that price and knowing it's being designed to work with PinePhone, I could be suckered into buying one. And by "could be suckered into buying one", I mean I'll be patiently waiting for word of when to send my money.

I don't know what's possible with your target price point, but I'd like to throw it out there that I would really appreciate a compass function if possible.

Does it need to be tethered to a PinePhone, or does it work on its own?
#7
no, I would pinepalm like UX-50 from sony or UMPC like Pocket
I dont need charging my device every day

I just downloaded the 400 page "Mastering The FreeRTOS Real Time Kernel", I will let you know when I am done reading it!

Hi, I'm extremely interested in the PineTime. I'm one of the developers behind Sleep as Android - a leading sleep tracking app for Android with lots of wearable integrations (Pebble, Garmin, Samsung, Xiaomi, Wear OS, Fitbit, ie. essentially everything integrable).

If you're interested, I would like to offer our experience with integrating the different smartwatch/band platforms. With our use case (sleep tracking), we are hitting a lot of boundaries of what the wearable device can and should be able to accomplish.
I would love to tell you what pitfalls we encountered, what are the shortcomings of other platforms from a dev point of view and what is essential regarding various high added value use cases.

I'm not a kernel developer by any means but I think we can provide a lot of detail about the ways how other smartwatch manufacturers screwed it up.

Please PM me or drop me a line at jiri.richter@urbandroid.org if interested

The following sensors would be very nice in the pinewatch, it would extend the pinephone :
- APDS9960 - Proximity, Light, RGB and Gesture Sensor
- VEML6075 - UVA/UVB/Index sensor
- BME680 - gas, pressure, humidity and temperature sensor
- AS3935 - lightning sensor
- BNO080 - accelerometer/gyroscope/magnetometer (9 axis)/compass...
- VL53L1X - time of flight (distance) sensor (up to 4m)
- DS3231 - high precision RTC
It might be nice when hiking and for outdoor activities.
A small camera for video calls without having to take the smartphone out (as well as a microphone, a speaker and vibrator)
No GPS inside to save battery life and instead pair it to the smartphone through Bluetooth to use its GPS?
Integrate 16G or more flash to load offline maps?

It would be really great
