I don't think so. I'd like to find an alternative as well since I'd need to join my pinephone to an existing Signal account. Axolotl can't do that, it needs to be the primary device. Unfortunately the official Signal desktop client seems not available for arm64 CPU.
I found instructions for building Signal desktop from source and attempted to do so on my Pinephone but the procedure did not work. Following directions the build bombed out on a cascade of errors and I'm not at all familiar with the tools and language used.
