Axolotl not working? - ragreenburg - 08-27-2021

I can't send messages for the paste hour or so but have been able to receive them. I checked Signals servers and they seem to he working just fine so this seems to he an Axolotl specific problem. Anyone else having it or is it just me? I've restarted the device twice and that didn't change anything.

I'm also having trouble on Arch. Getting "Can't connect to the Signal servers". A bug has been filed here: https://github.com/nanu-c/axolotl/issues/544

Well that's shit. Any other signal clients that can be used for Mobian/PP?

Not as far as I know. I'm hoping @arno_nuehm might have ideas.

That would be nice, fingers crosses!

I don't think so. I'd like to find an alternative as well since I'd need to join my pinephone to an existing Signal account. Axolotl can't do that, it needs to be the primary device. Unfortunately the official Signal desktop client seems not available for arm64 CPU.

I found instructions for building Signal desktop from source and attempted to do so on my Pinephone but the procedure did not work. Following directions the build bombed out on a cascade of errors and I'm not at all familiar with the tools and language used.

Yes, it's currently broken somehow to send messages. Please switch back to v1.0.1-2, that might help. The devs are on it.

Edit: Even a downgrade is not working. It seems, Signal changed something in their server eco-system....

A possible fix will take until Tuesday at least, according to nanu-c, the main dev of Axolotl.

It certainly would be nice to use the official version since it is a much more complete product. I know the linmobnet guy built the signal desktop version on his PinePhone but I couldn't find instructions on how. But if you wanted, you could email him and ask.o

Thanks for the update. At least we know they are working on it.

Thanks for the info! We'll all keep the fingers crossed. At least the desktop version connected to it is still working, so I could narrowly escape a major communication disaster today.

EDIT: ...WAS working. I made the stupid mistake of unregistering on the phone in the hope of making Axolotl work again. Axolotl apparently had some success in communicating with the Signal Servers: The desktop app on my notebook does not work anymore and asks me to reconnect to the phone -- which is not possible. So I strongly advise anyone who uses the desktop app against following the instructions below the error message to "unregister and register again" - this will only mess up things even more.
