Photo ROCK64 v3 4GB DDR board memory chip number
Posted by: Johannes - 03-08-2020, 09:53 AM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCK64 - Replies (2)

Hi,

I recently received a ROCK64 v3 4GB DDR memory board.
The board has a 4GB sticker on it and came in a box stating it is 4GB.
However, after installing two linux distributions I found out that available memory is only 1GB.
(distros: bionic-lxde-rock64-0.9.14-1159-armhf.img.xz and Armbian_2-.02.1_Rock64_bionic_current_5.4.20_desktop.7z (both) on eMMC and microSD card.)

I found out that the DDR memory chip has number PB047 - 125 PT on it, this identifies online as a 1GB (8Gb) memory chip not 4GB (see pictures below).

My question is what 4GB chip numbers of other ROCK64 v3 4GB boards are there with confirmed 4GB of memory when the OS (linux) is running?
(just press <enter> after typing command 'free' or top in a terminal)

Regards,
Johannes

  Installing WPS Office on Manjaro
Posted by: brent.thierens - 03-08-2020, 09:47 AM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Tutorials - Replies (5)

As I personally do not like the Libreoffice suite, and I don't mind too much using software that is not FOSS if it's a better match for me, I managed to get WPS Office running on the PBP running Manjaro, and it works really smoothly! The PKGBUILD and accompanying files are attached. This is just a minor adaption from the x86_64 AUR PKGBUILD.

Enjoy!

  Terminal Preferences unresponsive
Posted by: Foxchild - 03-08-2020, 05:28 AM - Forum: UBPorts on PinePhone - Replies (2)

I would like to change the font size and overall terminal behaviour, but when I click on the little gear in the upper right corner, the preferences open, but are completely unresponsive. The phone doesn't freeze, I can still just go back to the terminal and all, but the preferences are completely frozen.

Is there another way to change the preferences and more importantly, how could I fix the preferences window?

  Not enough free space
Posted by: Foxchild - 03-08-2020, 04:27 AM - Forum: PinePhone Software - Replies (8)

So, I have Ubuntu Touch set-up on the pinephone and I moved the OS to the internal memory with the command

Code:
sudo dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=/dev/mmcblk2 bs=4M

which worked fine.

Now I am trying to install some tools, but when I run the following command for instance

Code:
sudo apt install gparted

i get the error

Code:
E: You don't have enough free space in /var/cache/apt/archives/.

I managed to install jack, but when I try to run it, I get the same "out of memory" error.

What am I missing, in regards to memory? Do I have to "expand the filesystem" after installation or something?

  I GIVE UP
Posted by: SammiLeighTully - 03-07-2020, 04:06 PM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

I got the board when it first came out as a kickstarter. Never ONCE did I get it to work. Did I get help from the community? NOPE! Everyone who replied to my posts told me it was my power cord, the HDMI cord, or I didn't have a TRUE SD Card. Instead of helping me, you all drive me away to the point where I didn't bother with the board. I tried it and it still doesn't work. Did I get a lemon? I don't know. The people who made the board took my money and ran. After years of trying to get this board to work, I have TRULY given up and will be taking a hammer to it later. I might even record that. This was a complete waste of money and time that I will never get back. I won't be buying these boards ever again.

Bug Neutron Time or Atomic?

No matter what I try with numerous different UBPorts builds time displayed isn't local.
Changing the GUI system time and date setting manually & saving has no effect.
Reboot/restart never sets corrected time.
Phone ONLY displays UTC - Greenwich time.

Attempted to change in terminal also >> No-Go

  Random Reboots
Posted by: thriller - 03-06-2020, 10:28 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (6)

I was hoping to get a feel of the frequency people experience with random reboots on their PBP.

This past week I experienced three random reboots when using my Pinebook Pro.  All three times the laptop was running on battery at the time.  The first time I had just turned it on and started browsing the web for less than five minutes (Performance Mode was enabled for the CPU and battery was 100%).  The second time I was downloading about 10-15 PDF files while listening to music and browsing Reddit (On-Demand Mode was enabled for the CPU and battery was 100%).  The third time happened about 20 minutes after waking it up from suspend and browsing a website while doing a little bit of scripting (On-Demand Mode was enabled for the CPU and battery was 85%).

All three of these scenarios seem to consume different amounts of power but yet all led to the same issue.  Has anyone else experienced these issues in a similar or even different fashion?  Any guesses as to why this might be occurring?

Spec info: Default Debian OS with latest firmware update and standard 64GB eMMC.  I did flash my eMMC a month ago due to screwing around with installations.

PBP Provided Firefox Fails iCloud Notes Style Display Feature

My December 2019 Issue PBP improperly displays the contents for Notes in iCloud on Firefox, the contents are displayed as a blurred lines of shape similar to the contents when properly displayed, but are illegibly smeared.  A change of style choice does Not change the smear.  This is all on the PBP issued Debian, fully updated via Mr Fixit, Synaptics, and Firefox.

Firefox both on a Tosh Ubu 1804 floptop and a HP LOSEnotWin10 floptop DO properly display the Notes Style.  Chrome browser has not been tried.
