Ayufan's Ubuntu Focal Gnome (20.04)

I flashed Ayufan's latest pre-release with the gnome build and booted it.
The experience is, for a relatively heavy DE, incredibly smooth. So far the only thing I have found that doesn't immediately work as it should is sound.
Overall a vary good impression, kudos to Ayufan!
Edit: Regarding sound: neither the speakers nor the headphone jack works, I haven't been able to test hdmi yet.

Pinetab Smart Home expansion board? |

I believe it would be worthwhile to create another add-on for the PineTab that adds smart home controller functionality to it. The expansion could support a few popular radio types, such as:
- 433Mhz, by adding a RFM69 radio module. This is already open hardware. The MySensors project supports this radio. Candle builds on MySensors, for example.
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=rfm69&iax=images&ia=images
- A zigbee and Bluetooth Low Energy module (I believe the existing bluetooth chip doesn't support LE?). Recently there have been some great community developments, such as Zig-A-Zig-Ah and the Shepherd project, which underlies the Zigbee2Mqtt project. I don't know to what degree the TI chip they use can support Bluetooth LE and Zigbee at the same time.
https://www.reddit.com/r/homeautomation/..._hardware/
https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee-herdsman
- Alternatively, add/use a NRF24 chip to add Zigbee, Bluetooth LE and/or MySensors support in one chip?
- Perhaps add a Z-wave radio too?
Such a module would allow this tablet to function as a complete portable smart home controller. It would allow for the development of a more open counterpart to the "smart displays" being sold by Google, Facebook, Xiaomi, etc.
The backpack
Alternatively, a stand could be created that connects to the keyboard pins (which I read act as a USB 2.0 connector), and adds these radios that way. It could also add a speaker and microphone array to allow for fully local, privacy friendly voice control.

But then the downside would be that the tablet would have to stay fixed to that stand for the radio modules to be connected. If there was a built-in module, it could stay mobile and control the home at the same time.

[Possible solution] Stuck on blank screen

It seems that being stuck on a blank screen after the pine64 splash screen is a pretty common issue lately. Most of the time it happens after an OTA update but for me, it happened as well when I hard shutdown my PinePhone after being unresponsive.
I'm not sure if this is always the case but here's some steps you can try to recover your UT installation.
- Shutdown your PinePhone.
- Press and hold Power + Volume Up until it boots to the recovery mode screen (one that shows Installing Update)
- Connect your PinePhone to a desktop/laptop via USB cable.
- Check if all partitions in your UT installation, either emmc or sd card, can be mounted. In my case, the userdata is corrupted and cannot be mounted.
- If you found a partition that cannot be mounted, run the command below
sudo fsck /dev/<partition id>example udo fsck /dev/sdb10
- The command will check for errors and you will be asked if you want to fix them. Just answer Y in those questions.
- Eject your PinePhone and shut it down.
- Turn it on and see if it boots properly now.

HW accelerated video with subtitles support

Hello.
About HW accelerated video with subtitles support. I've tried many OS images for pinebook 1080p, but this is one of the two things I couldn't figure out, to be almost fully satisfied with the device. On the factory default KDE neon, the video can be accelerated, but without subtitles or media control overlay. On latest armbian or manjaro images, the subtitles work, but even 420p video is lagging.
My questions are:
Why is it so hard to achieve HW accelereated video with subtitles/overlay on pinebook?
Has anybody figured out how to do this? (every OS counts)
Thank you for your time and I'm looking forward for your replies.

Plasma-Desktop on Mobian

Has anyone succeeded in running Plasma Desktop (not Mobile) yet? I quite liked it on pmOS after some tweaks. Much more than Pasma Mobile. It ran on X11 much better than on Wayland. But I had problems getting phone calls and mobile data to work so I thought I'd try it on Mobian.
Sddm runs without any problems. But when I start Plasma in X I get a black screen where only the mouse cursor is visible. It changes position with each touch so it seems to be working generally. But plasmashell doesn't seem to load. I couldn't find any logfiles, so no idea what's wrong.
It starts up properly on Wayland but crashes after a few seconds back to sddm.
