Good afternoon,
I bought and recently received a Pinebook Pro to replace a 12 inch Lenovo Core m5 laptop I use on a daily basis. I've been a long time Armbian and ARM user with several other SBCs and was so thrilled that Pine64 would finally release a laptop with USB-C.
Used it for a few few days, testing images for Armbian, culminating in a event last night where my latest Armbian test-build worked with USB-C video (it hasn't ever worked up until that point).
I was enjoying using my USB-C dock with video, replacing my "desktop" ODROID N2 with the Pinebook Pro, when the keyboard would appear to stop working.
Whipped out the UART cable (after switching the switch from audio to UART) when I noticed the trackpad/keyboard would frequently (~30 times) disconnect and reconnect on the USB bus, eventually not reconnecting at all.
Checked cables, re-seated the connector between mainboard and trackpad/keyboard and re-seated the connector from mainboard to smallboard, with no change.
Finally I unplugged trackpad/keyboard connectors, isolating USB to just the mainboard, and still USB devices repeatedly disconnect and reconnect (I had a external USB keyboard connected to the USB3 port on mainboard only).
dmesg looks unremarkable, apart from the USB devices (keyboard/trackpad) getting disconnected and reconnected.
This device just arrived last week approximately, and while I think the Pinebook Pro is still a fantastic device, mine is currently not usable.
I can get more UART captures of the console and pastebin them, but here is what I see that concerns the internal trackpad/keyboard: https://pastebin.com/pfpbju9K in this test, no other USB devices were attached, just the internal keyboard and trackpad.

| Mobian and HW performance |

I'm using Mobian several days now and I like it very much. Just wondering if there is some space for improvement in overall performance or is the current state just the edge of the PineTab HW? I recognized that CPU usage is very high and for example Firefox is usable but laggy. The GPU acceleration should work in the current image, right? I don't want to complain and I appreciate the work of the developers very much, Thank You!!! Just want to know...
What's your impression on performance, especially under Mobian?

I did not see anything in the monthly update. I saw the previous batch appears to be shipping. I passed on the last round since I had not had a chance to get my hands on my PBP yet but am wanting to get a Tab. Anywho, any updates on when, or what delays are preventing, the next round becoming available would be appreciated. Keep up the great work!

[Fixed] Issue with mesa-git (Manjaro ARM Stable Update 2020-09-22)) |

Hi,
Updating to mesa-git-20.3.0_devel.128278.20a4235c4c9-1 caused a kwin_x11 crash, preventing it to use OpenGL as the compositor engine which resulted in a sluggish device (even after rebooting it).
After rebooting, the crash didn’t happen again, but it appeared that I’d lost transparency (during animations like moving windows, using the drop-down terminal, moving the mouse cursor, even the shutdown menu background was completely black) and the system felt sluggish when it used to display transparency before the update (like it was dropping frames and it kinda felt like it was using the CPU instead of the GPU to render the desktop).
To fix this, downgrade mesa-git to the previous version (mesa-git-20.3.0_devel.127750.ac6b8e42ce2-1), then go to System Settings > Hardware > Display and Monitor > Compositor. There should be a message on top saying that OpenGL detection was turned off because it caused crashes in the past and asking to re-enable it. Re-enabling it and rebooting fixed the issue for me.

| Modular upgrades in future? |

Just a suggestion, maybe already in the works. I think it would be great to have upgrades for hardware available in the store at some point. Im happy with my pp so far, but i know some consumer-type folk who dont think our inanimate deity is a shiny enough object to purchase just yet. You know the type, the iphone/instagram sort of folk. The most common complaint i hear from people i tell about the pinephone is that the camera isnt good enough. Funny thats the most common thing people care about, i havent heard one person express apprehension over linux being unfamiliar to them. Anyway, i bluff like a good salesman and say, its modular, when they upgrade the camera you can just switch it. True, if we do get one... So I'll suggest it to pine64 as an aftermarket offering... Fake it till pine64 makes it, aye?.... Lol. Anyway, probably a few cool aftermarket options p64 could add to the store.
-Higher mp camera
-Anodized aluminum back cover
-any other suggestions?..... Feel free to add!

I have installed mobian on an sd card. I was able to get voice calls to work. Then I experiment with setting up access points using various apn settings for my carrier. I managed to get mobile data to work. However, I discovered that I could not longer receive or place phone calls. I am totally baffled and out of my depth. I haven't included any real configuration information because I'm not sure what is relevant.

| Keyboard types random characters |

After receiving a Pinebook Pro in June that had QA issues, I opened a support ticket. It took a month for them to start troubleshooting with me. Then we did some very poor troubleshooting for a month. They issued a RMA and I paid for return shipping. I waited another month and now they have shipped me a replacement. It does not seem like a new unit. The box was slightly damaged and the screen and touchpad did not have the protective plastic film. While that is annoying because I paid for a new laptop, it has a bigger issue.
The real problem now is that the keyboard does not function properly. I can’t select ANSI or ISO keyboard. If I touch the right random key it will go to the next screen. When I try to enter a user name the keyboard just outputs random characters. It is unusable.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a solution? Or was I lucky enough to receive a second lemon?

Everytime I reboot my phone I have to manually go into the sound settings and switch the output sound setting from Default to Phone and then back to Default or my speakers don’t work. Anyone have a fix for this? Began happening after using headphones to listen to podcasts
