  Pinetab day 5
Posted by: mindwave - 09-22-2020, 05:10 PM - Forum: PineTab Software - No Replies

OK I like Mobian more than I thought I would, deslike UB as much as I knew I would. Nothing personal just have never taken to buntu period, and I have tried every distro plus.

However the Manjaro that came labled newscreen2 you can see will be a winner!

So next task, I use tablets for several things on a regular basis and one of those is an e reader. I use Moonreader on my android devices and Clibre ob my lonux

havent tried calibre on majaro arm, just becase i dont expect it to work.

Does anyone know of a solid Arm-linux e-reader?

So far the PTab has lived up to everything I thought it would be and then some.

Might even start to sing me back towarsd the Pinephone as an alternate.

Any and all ideas welcome!

J

  apt-get command not found

Hi,

I'm on my brand new pine book pro with the default OS. In the wiki the instructions in says to update the firmware with commands using apt-get https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/Pinebook_Pro#Keyboard

I get apt-get command not found. Since I'm following the wiki I assume these are accurate instruction, although it does say this is for 2019 models. How can I fix this?

Cannot find a method of flashing to EMMC that works
Posted by: MarkF - 09-22-2020, 02:33 PM - Forum: PostmarketOS on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Hi All,

I've just received my Pinephone Convergence Edition (3GB/32GB) running PostmarketOS.  I'd really like to install Mobian on EMMC.  If I flash Mobian to MicroSD, the phone will boot it and it runs quite happily.

The problem comes if I want to flash Mobian to EMMC.  I tried flashing JumpDrive to MicroSD, but if I try to boot the phone with that MicroSD inserted, nothing happens.  And I mean literally nothing - the phone won't even switch on.  I tried the flash with Etcher and again using dd, with the same result for both.

I then tried the second method from the Wiki - copy (not flash) the Mobian img file to MicroSD, insert the MicroSD, boot the phone and should see an option to flash the img file to EMMC.  But I don't - sometimes PMOS just boots as normal, with no such option being presented, and other times the phone refuses to boot at all - again it won't even switch on.

I'd really rather not do a dd directly from a mounted partition on the MicroSD - does anyone have any idea why neither JumpDrive nor the other method is working, and what I can do about it?

Many thanks,

Mark

  microSD card stuck

Hello,

While attempint to install a new OS on my Pinebook Pro, I've discovered that I'm unable to remove the micro SD card from the slot, even with tweezers there's not enough grip.  Has anyone ran into the same issue?

Be aware, these tests are being executed using an out-of-box testing methodology. All tests are preformed with minimal interaction/setup of devices outside of: OS imaging/updating,  SIM installation, Wifi Configuration,  and Power Cycling the devices.

Results: mobian/2020-09-22-TMobile.html

Conclusion: OS is not Ready for pinephone to be daily driver.

Notes: Sorry for the long time in between posts guys. Been a busy couple of weeks. Firefox took over 30 seconds to load this time. Audio/Video on a YouTube video play back is in sync.(whoot whoot)  Camera app disappeared. UI drags behind (delayed touch response) No improvements to note.

Ideas to use extra space in NAS case?
Posted by: _hg_ - 09-22-2020, 12:58 PM - Forum: RockPro64 Projects, Ideas and Tutorials - Replies (1)

I am only using the 2.5" drive slots so there is a lot of extra space in the case. The case is huge! Any ideas of how to put this space to use?

I could get a 4 port SATA card but I don't really need two additional drives.

You could 3D print a tray to put a second SBC in where the larger drives would go, run power out of one of those extra holes, and connect the two SBCs over serial link? With this, you could use PPP to connect the second SBC to the internet.

Anyone else doing something interesting with the extra space?

  Pine64 LCD
Posted by: rstcologne - 09-22-2020, 12:43 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PINE A64(+) - No Replies

Hi all,

is there any somewhat modern (still getting security fixes) linux distribution out there, that (still) supports the LCD screen?

I have tried numerous different images sometimes hoping that now outdated instructions on how to get it working still work but so far no luck.

Any hint highly appreciated, thanks!

Alternatively, can someone recommend another display which works well with Armbian?

Thanks,

Richard

Pinebook Pro Boot Issues - Booting needs multiple attempts
Posted by: mtndew - 09-22-2020, 11:13 AM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (13)

I received my Pinebook Pro a week ago and three days ago I began having an issue when I turn on my machine, the orange light stays on and the OS will not boot. It normally takes between 3-5 tries on average before the computer will load the OS. The orange light will stay on for hours and nothing will happen, so it is not a matter of the machine booting slowly. I have ensured the eemc switch is flipped towards the hinge, the eemc module is properly seated, and all cabling is properly inserted. I have this issue booting from both eemc and SD card. I have also tried installing fresh OS installation s on both eemc and SD card. I have tried the plasma, xfce, and i3 versions of Manjaro, Debian, and Elementary OS, so I am ruling out there is an issue with software. I am currently using manjaro plasma as I type this from my PBP and that is what I initially started with on initial set up.

Other than this annoying issue with boot up, I am enjoying my PBP! Heart

  All the Manjaro Builds!

Woah okay grab something stable everyone, Manjaro is making big moves... 3 build released in the last week. Now there's an alpha with Lomiri (same UI as UT) and boy am i excited! Looks like they've ironed out more issues with phosh and hopefully theyre able to carry a lot of their progress over to the Lomiri and Plasma builds. Check out their news page for links to the latest!

Its also worth noting these are all official supported projects now, more than just a dev or 2 tinkering. Id say that make Manjaro a strong contender to take the lead soon. Just gotta start getting used to pacman over apt...
