NVMe timeout when booting from eMMC but not SD
Posted by: satwell - 10-01-2020, 09:49 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (5)

I just got an NVMe adapter for my Pinebook Pro and have installed it with a Kingston A2000 250GB NVMe SSD.  This is an SSD that others have reported success with on the wiki.

The boot process stalls for 60s and then I get a timeout error like this:

Code:
[    3.742566] nvme nvme0: pci function 0000:01:00.0
[    3.742612] nvme 0000:01:00.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)
[   64.480323] nvme nvme0: I/O 12 QID 0 timeout, disable controller
[   64.600233] nvme nvme0: Device shutdown incomplete; abort shutdown
[   64.640667] nvme nvme0: Identify Controller failed (881)
[   64.641472] nvme nvme0: Removing after probe failure status: -5

And then it boots normally, but none of the /dev/nvme0* devices are available.  This is on Debian Bullseye installed with Daniel Thompson's installer and kernel.  Kernel 5.5 and 5.7 both have this same behavior.

Here's the weird part.  I only have this problem booting from eMMC.  If I boot from an SD card with basically the same Bullseye install and the same kernel, the NVMe drive works perfectly.  So it doesn't seem to be bad hardware or a simple compatibility issue.

I'm a little stumped.

  installing vpn
Posted by: ergo owl - 10-01-2020, 06:11 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (3)

Hi all,

I am using a Swedish vpn named mullvad and their debian package is for amd64. As you know, the Pinephone runs on arm64 and after "dpkg --add-architecture amd64" I am still left with an unsatisfied dependency: iputils-ping. Now, I stopped myself just short of installing it since it removes inetutils-ping, mobian-base, mobian-phone-base and mobian-phosh just to name a few. Is this a dead end and should I go for installing open vpn and adding a config file from my vpn in there instead? What method do you guys use to run your vpn on the Pinephone?

Appriciate any tips or advice.

  Telegram Desktop background

Hello everyone, I have noticed that if the Telegram window is closed, the program closes and notifications are not received.
How can it be minimized instead of closed? Or what is the same, leave it running in the background, once the window is open.

  File selector dialogue crashes Firefox
Posted by: stozi - 10-01-2020, 11:50 AM - Forum: PostmarketOS on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Hey, both on the pre-installed PmOS Phosh and the 'edge' phosh version, after the first time I upload a photo to web telegram, successfully, every succeeding time I try to invoke the file selector dialogue window, eg, by pressing ctrl+o, firefox entirely freezes and must be pkill'd.

This kind of thing is expected at this stage of development, but is there anything I can do to prevent it or even re-set it to functional after each time?

Thanks

HI,

Maybe is it possible to use some external sensors via OTG USB, together with external power supply ?

  Bluetooth microphone not detected
Posted by: mjc - 10-01-2020, 08:27 AM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (2)

I'm on Manjaro and I recently got a set of bluetooth headphones with inbuilt mic (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07C5VW8D1/).

The bluetooth pairing works fine, and I can get audio output through the headphone speakers, but the microphone doesn't seem to be detected, and the "Recording devices" list on audio settings shows only "Analog Input (Built-in Audio Stereo)".

Any ideas?

Update:

On a cross-post at forum.manjaro.org, a member of the ARM team writes,

Quote:I seem to recall something about the wireless chip not being able to do WiFI and Bluetooth (microphone) at the same time. Don’t know if it’s true or not.

And I know we haven’t gotten the microphone part of the headset jack to work (if it’s indeed a dual jack).

Sounds like the problem might not have a solution.

Results: ubports/2020-10-01-TMobile

Conclusion: This OS is not ready for the device to become a daily driver.

Notes: Still open to the idea that the camera button is to reverse the image not switch to the 'selfie camera' if anyone can confirm either way I would appreciate it. Failed 4G outbound call still an issue. I noticed that the modem crashed after the initial update and all outbound communication led to a "No SIM" error. It was interesting though, because all of my carrier settings loaded and I was able to manually force them to reload. A hard reboot fixed those issues.

Issues:
4G outbound calls broken.
Phone gets stuck in a weird lock state when spamming power button.
