  PWM fan control low power
Posted by: Connar - 12-12-2021, 05:58 AM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCKPRO64 - No Replies

Hey all!
I just got my first Rockpro64 this week, works great but i have a small problem:
The cpu fan is running very slow, it is connected to the pwm header and set at the max value of 255 in software, but it's still very slow (enough that it needs a push to start spinning on startup), but when i connect the ground wire of the fan directly to ground (effectively closing the circuit) it actually goes max speed. That tells me it could have enough power to spin faster but it doesn't, does anyone have the same problem or is able to help me figure this out?

note: I was planning on putting a second case fan connected to the same header, tried it and none of the fans spin (i can see they get a tiny bit of power but not enough to spin)

Updated stock Manjaro, now won't boot (brick?)

So I updated the stock Manjaro on my PBP with pacman syu and put my pinebook in sleep mode, now a day later I press the power and see the power led on (after charging a bit, seems drained) but nothing shows on the screen, WTF? I just got this PBP, didn't even pull the plastic of the screen yet...

What do fam

  Cross compiling

I've been following this issue https://invent.kde.org/teams/plasma-mobi.../issues/74 with interest, to learn how to cross-compile on my PC with a Pinephone target. The related blog post series is a good read.

I'm curious what other people do to compile programs for their PP? Directly on the device? Some other cross-compiling method?

So far I've been using the very good Manjaro ARM tools, though this compiles in a qemu vm which FWIU doesn't use your full system resources, so a native cross-compile seems like a good idea.

I don't really have a fast ARM board so for me cross-compiling seems to be my best choice.

Sad Blinkind red LED and stop working randomly ?
Posted by: jean_bruder - 12-11-2021, 03:50 PM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (1)

Dear all,

I'm looking for some help regarding my Rock64 board : the red LED is blinking 2 times 1 sec, then stop for 2 secondes, then start again, and this all the time.

Another issue is that the board start working properly, then after a random time stop working without any reason (no high CPU load, no overheating) ...

Can somebody help me on both the issues : bord no more usable for now ...

Regards,
Jean

Hacking project: Replace lcd with third party displays.
Posted by: holycow - 12-11-2021, 12:03 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (6)

HI guys.

I searched the forums, online and youtube and I am not finding any guidance on what might be plausibly doable for my use case.  I hope it is okay to ask these questions here, if not please let me know and I will hapily more or remove the post.

PROJECT:  I am looking to hack up an old used Pinephone and replace the LCD display panel with a smaller square'ish sized one.  Something similar to attaching a Waveshare panel to a Raspberry pi, as per example:  https://www.waveshare.com/product/2.8inch-dpi-lcd.htm

REASON: I want to re-purpose the guts of the Pinephone project + software, change the display to a lower resolution panel and then try to figure out how to build a hardware keyboard in a new form factor.

Building a usb thumb keyboard is straight forward, I would like to now enter into dremel hell and see what can be done playing around with form factors and hardware hopefully without having to write drivers and just letting the onboard gpu do the driving at whatever resolution is supported by an appropriately "compatible" panel display.

Questions:

1)  Can anyone with an understanding of hardware comment on the plausibility of find and using lcd panels with the Pinephone?  Is it doable at all?

2) If theoretically doable, what is the likelyhood of a display panel existing that is compatible with the Pinephone in various form factors such as the ones available via vendors like Waveshare?

3) If it is unlikely that a drop in compatible panels exist for the Pinephone, what might the reverse engineering of getting one to work with a Pinephone look like?  Only a brief description is necessary, I can google the rest of the information.

Any information would be helpful.  I don't need an end to end explanation, just enough to google up the rest of information and get going.

Thank you kindly.

Chatty -- no response after install
Posted by: tckosvic - 12-11-2021, 09:55 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - No Replies

After seeing info on MMS success with chatty, I installed it with pacman.  I am running manjari-plasma beta8.

Installing chatty left a desktop icon called chats.  Starting chats gives a screen that says "start chatting".  Nothing happens after clicking everywhere.

The menu on chats opens up with choices that include preferences.  Clicking preferences does nothing.  Clicking all the other menu options also does nothing.

Any trick to how people are getting chatty going.  It is supposed to get MMS messages as well as SMS messages.  Does not even find contacts as far as I can see.

Any help, please.      Thanks,     tom kosvic

I also started chatty from a terminal to see if any error messages showed up.  An inactive chatty started up and there were no error messages.  Still no activity on chatty gui

  Battery life on sxmo
Posted by: xark - 12-11-2021, 05:44 AM - Forum: Sxmo on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Hello everybody,

I am looking into buying pp and using it with sxmo. As I saw with other distros, battery life of pp isn't so great. Mostly because of modem, if I saw correctly? Is it with sxmo the same as it is with other distros? I'm currently spoiled with my old Samsung Galaxy J5(2015) with lineageOS, that can survive up to 12 day, with little usage. Moderate usage I get 7 days sms-ing and calling, with 30% still on battery.

How it is with heat throttle and cpu speed lowered and battery life?

If anyone has testes with various scenarion, can report on his findings I would be very happy Smile .

Thank you.

...I wrote my wish list where on top is a PP "mini" with 4-5" display, privacy switches on the side (like Librem5), better camera and a longer battery life. I would be OK with the performance of the current PP. Do you think I was well behaved enough to get one in the future? Smile

Edit: Seriously, the size of the PP is the biggest showstopper for me. Anyone else who want's a PP "mini" or are you OK with the size?

Need help! Can't get device mode to work.

Hi,

I'm running Debian on rockpro64, I want to setup rndis when device is plug into a linux host. I have modified the device tree to have USB-c port as peripheral. I have also setup configfs according to a lot of posts on the net, but every time I plug it in, linux host would give this error:

[Dec10 14:40] usb 1-2: new full-speed USB device number 57 using xhci_hcd
[  +0.128029] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71

[  +0.207847] usb 1-2: device not accepting address 60, error -71
[  +0.000175] usb usb1-port2: unable to enumerate USB device

I have bind fe800000.usb to UDC in configfs, but seems like whatever I change in configfs won't affect the result, as if configfs has nothing to do with the usb port.

I found someone else also had similar issue in another post on this forum, but there is no detail whether he found a solution or what the solution was.
Can anyone help?
