The modem does not recognize Korean SIM cards (what?)

I am exploring my newly purchased PinePhone, and I have encountered what looks like quite a big problem for me. I live in Korea, and when I insert a Korean SIM card into the phone, the phone says that the SIM card slot is empty. (Precisely: home screen -> up arrow (all apps) -> settings -> cellular network -> there it says that the SIM slot is empty.)
With any of the other SIM cards I have (I have them from several countries and from different carriers, both expired and working, more than 10 in total), it always says "SIM 0", like the SIM card is there. And when I insert any of the two Korean SIM cards I have (one expired and one working), it says that the SIM slot is empty.
I want to underline that I am not talking about network registration/rejection of my SIM card, I am talking about the modem "locally" reporting the presence of a SIM card, before any network registration. All other phones I have say that the SIM card is there when I insert it, but with the PinePhone I have this issue. I've tried to boot the PinePhone from a microSD card, the same result: sees foreign cards, does not see Korean ones.
I don't know what happens on a deeper level, I don't know if it is actually a hardware issue or a software one, but on the GUI level it looks like this. And this makes the phone almost unusable for me.

Using Android and the Playstore

I have a couple questions about Android.
1. It looks like the latest image for Android 9, SD card is from 2019. Have there been no updates since then? Or has support dropped off?
2. Is there any reason to choose an older version (7, 8)?
It looks like I have to do some work to install the Playstore, whichever version I use. I don't normally use Android but there are a few apps I would like to try. I might be able to set something up with a Linux distribution but it would probably be a lot more work than installing a couple of apps.

Hi,
has anyone successfully moved an eMMC 128 GB from a stock Pinebook Pro into a Pinebook 1080p to replace the stock 16 GB drive ? Are connectors compatible and would the older Pinebook recognize the full capacity ? According to specs, the Pinebook 1080p supports only up to 64 GB. New OS installation expected, that for sure, fine.
Help appreciated, Peter

Manjaro phosh no screen rotation

I am running the latest Manjaro phosh on a Pinephone plus a keyboard. The screen is in the portrait mode and I do not see any way to make it rotate to the landscape mode.
I saw at a Manjaro site that the auto-rotate feature had been removed.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

User name and password change?

This may sound like an RTFM question, but the post install instructions say to go to settings->user, then click on the one user and change the password.
Problem is that there's no user section in settings, at least in Arch Plasma, though it does have a lockscreen pin setting, but that doesn't work. There are instructions for changing the password via terminal, so I'll prolly use that, but I'd kind like to change the user name as well, since using the default prolly isn't the most secure thing to do.
So, for someone that's never need to change, add or modify a user post install, how does one do that, or rather, how does one do that here, or is it just the same as any other Linux system (I figure there's plenty of instructions online for that)?

Armbian has been released!

Armbian 22.05
Highlights:
- Thousands of hours have been invested to stabilize supported board images
- Hundreds of Linux kernel and user space related bug fixes completed by the Armbian team
- Added support for new boards
- Established new Maintainers
What’s New:
Our first priority is to support and enhance the Community. To that goal, Armbian releases updates and bug fixes from our Contributors on a regular basis. We are excited to add support for the following new boards:
- DevTerm A06
- Orange Pi R1+ LTS
- Radxa Rock 3A
- Radxa Zero
And to announce new Maintainers and movement to supported status the following boards:
- ESPRESSObin
- Radxa Rock Pi 4
A complete list of bug fixes and updates are linked below.
Community Call to Action:
As an Armbian Community member or user you know that we support many different single board computers, with each release requiring a significant investment of time, effort and money. While most Linux distributions can create a single build and then release their distribution, we must test our releases against many different hardware platforms which is much more time consuming and makes providing consistent stable images more challenging. We are able to develop new and updated releases due to the significant contribution of time from our Maintainers, developers and limited donations.
At present our funding and Community time contributions allows us to complete one medium sized project per year related to our tools such as the Build Framework or our configuration tool along with bug fixes, support for new boards, etc. Clearly this level of support, while appreciated, does not allow us to complete many of the outstanding issues or improvements needed or requested by the Community. Accordingly, we believe we are at an inflection point, where in order to move forward and address the Community’s needs, Armbian needs to transition to a new business model. One where growth will require us to acquire additional funding before we can address many of the larger issues.
How can you help?
Time: For those who want to contribute time, please consider becoming a board Maintainer of one of the many boards that Armbian supports.
Money: For those who can help monetarily, please consider making a donation.
Credits:
This release represents the hard work of exceptional individuals who have contributed their time and expertise. Many thanks to (in alphabetical order):

Otherwise, we will continue to update you here in this thread as new releases are put out.

PineTime Stuck in DFU Mode

Hello all,
I've so far successfully flashed Wasp-OS OTA to my PineTime from Infinitime using nRF Connect, and this time I wanted to go back and try the latest version of Infinitime.
After following this tutorial from the wiki and attempting to flash the reloader zip reloader-infinitime-recovery-0.14.1.zip, I have been stuck in DFU mode. nRF Connect freezes at 100%, and the log received an error for GATT connection timeout. I researched online and my issue seems consistent with what this tutorial warned ("Don't do this [update reloader zip] before updating the bootloader, otherwise your PineTime will freeze at the end of the process, and you will need to wait for the battery to go flat")
For now, my device is stuck in factory reset mode with the pinecone, start message and arrow. Is my problem that I uploaded the reloader zip before updating the bootloader? How can I fix this?
Thanks for all your help!
