Need new eMMC
#1
Hi guys,
I got my Pinebook Pro out of the cupboard again after a few years. Since the updates didn't go through, I decided to update it with a current Manjaro via the SSD card and then wanted to write the system to the eMMC.
It seemed as if everything had been transferred cleanly to the eMMC. Finally I entered "sync" and wanted to reboot.

Since then nothing works anymore. Pressing the start button shows no reaction. Even flipping the internal switch to start manually via the SD card was unsuccessful.

The system is completely dead.

A question for you: Is there anyone here who can reflash the eMMC for me? Or can I order an eMMC including operating system somewhere?

best regards
Karsten

Take the eMMC out for now. You're going to need to get a micro sD card to boot, which likely means zeroing the SPI nor ROM.

Every time I've ever tried to update arch (Manjaru) after a long period of no updating, it ends up "soft-bricked".

Until you have a working system, pressing the start button will not give you obvious results, unless you notice the temperature of the SOC. (Hot, running, cold, not running). The power light is software driven.

I just did a bunch of this myself last month. I accidentally bricked the computer. My solution was to open up the computer, toggle the switch that changes the boot order, then I installed armbian from an sd card. None of this went as planned and I spent an entire day working with chatgpt to get the boot right because armbian messed that up. Eventually I got there and now the computer boots.

First note: if you do open the computer, go easy, the speakers are on the lid and I ripped one of the wires.
Second note: the AI is dumb as bricks, but if you ask the right questions you can get there.

I would give more details, but frankly it was a slog, mostly because armbian chocked on me. Maybe there was a different distro I could have used.
