wifi issues
#1
Hi all,
I am having hair pulling issues! I have had my Rock64 board for over a week now. I have tried most of the Debian distros and most of the Ubuntu distros from the rock64 wiki page. I have had only one distro to works and get internet activity the Armbian Debian Stretch Desktop [microSD / eMMC Boot] [5.65] distro.

I have not been able to get any of the other distros to connect to anything. My latest attempt has been with the Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic LXDE Desktop Image [microSD / eMMC Boot] [0.7.8].  I found the network panel and this distro sees my wifi adapter and my home network but refuses to connect..

I have not been able to find any help on the internet for this. I have only found ifconfig and iwconfig of which iwconfig is not in the distro, it has been replaced with ip.

Please help this noob,

George

The reason I asked which wifi dongles is because you may need to ask ayufan or mrfixit to include them in their kernels. If they are 802.11ac dongles you will need to compile the drivers because those devices aren't in the kernel at all.

The thing I find interesting is the Debian version from ayufan works without a hitch with the no name dongle.

I finally found the information on my wifi dongle;

GENERAL.DEVICE:                         wlx000f004d5a88
GENERAL.TYPE:                           wifi
GENERAL.NM-TYPE:                        NMDeviceWifi
GENERAL.VENDOR:                         MediaTek
GENERAL.PRODUCT:                        802.11 n WLAN
GENERAL.DRIVER:                         mt7601u
GENERAL.DRIVER-VERSION:                 4.4.178-rockchip64

I had to use the armbian debian release to find the information. I will go back to the ubuntu version and try to use the commands i used to get this information to see if I have the right driver for it.

You will need to file a driver inclusion request with @ayufan for mt7601u, I'm not sure the best place to file a bug, although there is a few here: https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/linux-build/issues

I cannot get my Wifi dongle to do anything on my new Rock64 pro. Is there a list of supported dongles or a guide to installation?

I am running Ubuntu 18.04 which booted fine from an SD card and connected via wired ethernet, although nothing shows up in the network manager.

What wifi chip do you have?
