Phone won't suspend, battery drains quickly
#1
When I suspend the phone with the power switch, it suspends, then wakes up every 5 minutes.

When I type systemctl suspend -i, the system suspends, then pops back awake to the lock screen.

When I type sudo dmesg after systemctl suspend, I get the following:

Not sure what's going on, but _something_ keeps it from suspending, and battery life is now terrible, I can only be unplugged from a charger for a couple hours now, and the battery is at zero.

Running Mobian Bookworm, updated daily.

If you are on kernel 5.15, you could try to switch to a previous kernel 5.10 or 5.13. I have similar issues on my PineTab with latest kernel where 5.10 runs flawless.

Thanks, guenther. I believe I'm on an older kernel, 5.13 I think. I first installed bookworm a couple of months ago, have been updating regularly since, and the battery life recently got very short. It gets hot just sitting in my pocket.

I noticed the same type of behavior when having my phone in my pocket or in a bag (which I usually carry around for longer distance travels).
However, it doesn't happen when the phone is lying on my desk, or a table at a restaurant, or some other place where it's just openly visible.
One thing I assume what's going on is that the power button gets accidentally pressed (or gets recognized even while not even touching that button?).

Ryo, mine is turning on every 5 minutes while sitting on the desk. Definitely not hitting the power button.

Does anyone have any ideas for what I should look at to try to figure this out? The failures reported in the dmesg look like they might be part of it, but I have no idea what they mean or how to dig further.

@nelstomlinson

You did not mention if you are running from the eMMC, or from an sd card. ?

My daily driver Pinephone has a Bookworm release from about August I think, plus all the updates.

While one of my test phones with the latest Mobian Weekly release flashed to the micro-sd is running almost perfectly.

The updated images do not exactly match the latest released images.

Hi, I have PPP running Manjaro phosh from the SD card with tow-boot.
The battery goes from 100 to 0 in 5 hours or so ... and the phone is constantly warm. Checking the temp, it is around 44 degrees (CPU and GPU are similar); battery is 18.8 constantly Smile.

It seems it does not suspend properly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Of the distro's I have tried on my Explorer edition, --- Arch/Phosh was the only Pro series operating system

that has a functional suspend mode "Out of the Box"... at the moment.

On the original Pine phone series I think 'most' Distro's do have suspend working.

Do you have Arch installed on the eMMC or microSD card?
Do you have Tow-Boot installed on the SPI?

1) That was from the sd card
2) That's a 'no' on the Tow-Boot

I know that the emmc does read much faster, but I am looking for dependable first.

When I do finally put an OS on my emmc, -- I will probably use the sd card/slot for storage,
so I don't know if Tow-Boot would be of any benefit.

I have been "Playing" with the Pine phones for over 2 years now, Eventually I do want to "Just use my phone".

BUT, I may be interested in putting Tow-Boot on my Pinebook Pro
