The old warnings not to remove memory card while you see this icon...or do not disconnect from power while saving? They're true. Can corrupt the SD card. Doing a first run on Remix OS it was stuck in a boot loop so I turned it off and SD card was done.

Just reformat it with command prompt in Windows. Only smacking them with a hammer can kill them.

Method 3: Try to format your SD card from command prompt.
a. Type cmd in start search box then right click on cmd and click on run as administrator.
b. when cmd opens, type diskpart
c. After that type list disk.
d. Select the disk of your SD card.
e. Type clean.
f. Type create partition primary.
g. Type fomat fs=fat 32 quick .
h. Type exit.

Try. The worst what can happen that you will brake your SD card Smile

So I started from scratch.

  1. Wrote the image to the SD card
  2. Ubuntu VM for Gparted
  3. Formatted 3rd partition as etx4
  4. Formatted 4th partition as ext4 (The 1 GB one) because I saw this from his Android 7.0 thread
"If you want to utilise the space of your card, resize the last partition (currently it's 1GB)."
  5. Resized the 4th partition which used up the unallocated space.
  6. Booted up and have 27 GB free
Success!

Haha trust me. I'm fairly saavy. It pretends like the lock switch has been set, but it can't be unlock so it thinks it's write protected. I've tried EVERYTHING and am set with not wasting anymore time on it.

Step 4 is where I went wrong, thanks.

If only that were true.

... take a look at this link to understand SPI and SD cards.

You may have noticed the large number of people who are having trouble writing their image(s) to the SD card and getting the pine board to boot.  This is NOT due to bad hardware , and is usually not due to bad software, but is almost always due to the fact that SD cards are easily corrupted and sometimes permanently damaged because of improper shutdown and improper software access in other devices (as well corrupted--- as in permanently damaged cells in the flash area of the card.

The reason reformatting does not work to correct the card is that the image write process (dd and win32diskimager) do not follow the 'formatting' , rather they write the disk image ( tree, meta-data, and data) out to the card bit-for-bit. If the SD card is not compatible with the binary image, if it has holes in the flash, if its structure is damaged from improper access or shutdown, that write will never work again and the card is not worth the plastic its encased in.

This is the reason I only use NEW cards; Samsung evo plus Class 10 32Gb cards are the best bet...

... always shutdown properly, and never just yank an SD card ! YMMV

Wow, never heard of that, I have never killed a SD card.  I am constantly writing different images to them.  Widows will not recognize them to format them, so I have to use the command prompt to format them.

I can confirm Netflix for Android TV did not work but the regular version did

Really appreciate your work on this.

I finally got my new microSD card today and thought about trying your build. I downloaded the image from the given link (latest stable). I flashed it on my card using Win32DiskImager. But my Pine64 doesn't boot. It's a 2GB version with wifi. Any suggestion?

EDIT::
Never mind. Had to power-cycle the system. Now I have the Android TV running with Ethernet. But my LG Smart TV cannot detect it as CEC-enabled device. Do I need to do anything else? Note that, I use CEC with other devices without any issue. I am using an HDMI 2.0 compatible cable to connect to my TV.

It may not work with some devices. We miss reliable way to ACK all CEC received messages. Because of that some TVs doesn't properly acknowledge the existence of device.
