Real/Usable USB-C battery pods for Pinecil? (9-12v mode minimum)
#11
There is this one USB-C PD battery pack that I like because it doesn't have cables.

It's Veger 20W mini powerbank from Amazon
It negotiates 12V, and so it reaches 15W .  It also nicely fast charges a smartphone.

For my use cases I am not sure I would want that exact setup, but thanks for that lead!

I wonder if it might make more sense to get one of those big power stations with AC output and just use one of the PINEPOWER USB-C PD devices or similar? It's not super light but get a decent USB-C PD cable and you could pack it into a backpack and use it for a decent while without charging.

I just ordered one of these, supposed to do 300W(600 peak watts) and has a notably larger battery than a small power pack. I think the amps can be sustained for up to 4 meters (with only USB2.0 speeds but the current will carry) so you could operate it from a pack if you couldn't seat it on the table.

The model is a Jackery Explorer 300 - there were discounts for prime day. Could post a link but I don't want to come across as some kind of shill.

Good luck!

That Jackery battery seems interesting though a bit big for my plan to have a power bank in my portable tech tool box.  At that size I would also want a solar power charge controller; though I would probably want that and the 220v inverter as plug-ins to keep the size smaller should I want a larger portable system and that would again lead me to a DIY solution I think.  That big I would probably want to move on and build an add-on to a removable(I have not investigated electrical personal locomotion battery standards at all) E-bicycle battery cartridge.
The 600watts is pretty extreme over a USB cable, maxxed at 20v that is 30amps though those tiny USB-C cable wires and connectors!!

I'm using a Baseus 65W 30,000mAh power bank. It was pricey, but lasts for ages. It heats the Pinecil to 340c in about 12 seconds using the red Pincil silicone USB C cable.

Several IP5328 boards have arrived, I have some 18650 cells so I will decide how best to construct a Pinecil compatible battery pod.  It is unfortunate that this process of selection is so fraught, though at least there are some tested off-the-shelf options vs bring-your-own cells options.

I am thinking about using a 40V 5AH lawn tool battery.  Connect this 200/400W buck convertor to it  https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256804006119819.html and mount this fan onto the buck convertor heat sink https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256801789237445.html This would give me a very strong 12V - 24V output.  And then maybe a Baseus 100W or 160W car charger for ports.  I keep worrying about the size of this beast, and if I really have any use for it.

That's 600W peak over a NEMA 5-15 standard AC plug. 60W USB-C PD.

Warning, this is Not a Pinecil, this was not made by Pine64 .  This is a fake copy.   See warning in Pinecil Wiki  https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/Pinecil#Authenticity
Also see in the   Github firmware IronOS   warning about it https://github.com/Ralim/IronOS/discussions/1257

Avoid QC, look at Power Delivery Protocol (PD), do not get anything that delivers less than 3amps (more is ok/good).
Pinecil Wiki has an entire section on Power https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/Pinecil#Pow..._and_Watts
and links to Community Chat where the very active and knowledgeable volunteers hang out.
