By the way, there is a laptop conversion kit for RPi named PiTop. For $264. Nuff said https://pi-top.com

That is one piece of expensive ugly hardware. I know looks aren't everything.. but for that price? The Pinebook looks like a MacBook. That thing looks like a toddlers first computer.

Definitely. Your sarcasm is the understatement of the year to describe how ugly it is. I'm having flashbacks to the One Laptop Per Child project...

This thing looks like it will be perfect for testing on my Arm based Linux projects, can't wait to get it!  Big Grin Luke I read in another thread there was a 10 month back log of orders, any idea how long for those of us that added our emails to the BTO page last year? Secondly I added my email on the 14" list, but then after rethinking it a week later I put my email on the smaller one, will I get 2 separate emails and I can just order the smaller one when that email comes? Thanks

n3rDy,

Regarding your question about BTO - I honestly don't know. Also, I wouldn't necessarily consider the '10 month quote' a definite statement -- it all depends on how many of those who signed up for BTO will actually decide to buy the unit. Even Pine doesn't know this obviously ... So unless every person who put their name down for a BTO deides to buy the unit, it could be considerably shorter than that. The truth is, I decided to point out this information (shared by tllim publicly on IRC) to ground people in reality and prevent them from thinking they'll receive their order email in a matter of days (unless they're very very lucky obviously); in truth, I did this in hope of preventing an avalanche of 'when will my BTO be ready?' posts on the forum Smile

I also don't know whether you'll receive two emails for each of the devices you put down on BTO - but I would guess so. Its best that tllim responds to this question as I do not wish to mislead you. I will ask him to take a look at this thread to fill in any gaps he can.

c'mon... it's Kermit-the-frog-green (or all black)... whats not there to like about it? :-P Big Grin

Yeah, it ain't the prettiest device around, and isn't that cheap either... $299 (pi-top and rPi) plus $70 shipping (to Australia in my case)... er, I want a pinebook!

The thing to consider here though is the pi-top is a modular system around a standard Raspberry Pi, and has a built in experimenters / prototyping area, whereas the pinebook is based around a custom PCB, not the Pine64 board... You can't just get yourself a pinebook minus the main board, and just shove in a pine64 board... but you can get a pi-top and shove in a standard raspberry pi... so it's a bit of an oranges to apples comparison. Having said that... I wouldn't hesitate recommending the pinebook for it's price and capabilities for use as a prototyping/development setup in its own right, or hackable notebook form-factor android tablet Wink

I thought you were keen on green pfeerick ? didn't you mock my lovely blue theme just the other day ?

I have updated the PB description with a completely uneducated and uninformed-ish description of the key layout for both units ...

Luke,

Any idea how much the shipping cost might be? For the US, it's about $7 to my area for a Pine A64. I assume it will cost more to ship the Pinebook?
