  Future plans for hardware
Posted by: daniel_mazurkiewicz - 07-06-2020, 03:10 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (10)

In terms of hardware PinePhone is already outdated to nowadays standards. Wondering if and what are exactly the future plans to keep it somewhere closer to modern standards in terms of hardware performance, screen type and resolution, or cameras?

Ps. Secondary and possibly third USB-C port could have a huge advantage over other phones on the market, has anyone thought of it?

  Thank you for existing

I'm so appreciative of everything Pine64 is doing for the community. Thank you.

I'm checking every single day for the postmarketOS Pinephone release. I'm really excited! If the stars align properly I might be able to afford a pinebook too :p

Anyway, you have my complete support and I'm telling everyone about you and your products. Heart

pinebook pro manjaro xfce pacman network error

I switched from the first default OS to manjaro(xfce).

I am new to pacman (and kinda miss my apt-get Smile ).
If i try to install anything via pacman or pamac-manager i get the following errors(sorry for the german but I guess it's still understandable):

I can open the websites/locations (...manjaro-arm-moson.org...) via browser, if I try to ping/trace them it fails.

I already tried sudo pacman-mirrors -g as well.

  Camera support progress
Posted by: a-wai - 07-06-2020, 10:06 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (73)

Hello,

A few interesting patches by megi have made their way to the pine64 kernel lately, bringing improved drivers for the pinephone cameras.
With a couple of extra hacks on top of that, and an experimental build of gnome-camera, support for the back camera should be working "out of the box" with the next nightly build Smile

This is far from perfect, and should be regarded as some kind of "technology preview": image resolution is 720p only, and the quality is really poor atm.
Still, I believe this is a major step forward!

You can test by first upgrading your system, then running the following command:

Code:
sudo apt install gnome-camera
(a reboot is required)

Enjoy!

  OpenGL/ES on RP64
Posted by: Wizzard - 07-06-2020, 12:27 AM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCKPRO64 - Replies (3)

I am using Pinebook Pro, but I also think about buying some RockPro or similar SBC. The main purpose would be some server together with some retro gaming. I don't want to use some precompiled image like Lakka or Recalbox, cause I also want to use it as a print server, mpd server etc. So I prefer running clean Armbian or similar up to date distro. And now there is a problem. Does RockPro OS support OpenGL/ES out of the box? Or do I need to mess with building drivers like on Banana/Orange Pi?

Also, is it fine to use RockPro or some RK3399 derivative like RockPi, Orange Pi 4 etc.?

Shocked PineBook Pro Powering Down Instead of sleeping
Posted by: conor.murphy99 - 07-05-2020, 10:58 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (3)

Hi there,
I'm very new to Linux and using a Pinebook (before this I have only used a PC with Windows 10), so I really don't know anything more than a few basic commands in the terminal for viewing files. I've just recently upgraded the eMMc module to 128gb and booted the computer with Ubuntu. I have found however an issue where the computer doesn't like to go into a suspended or sleeping mode, but instead directly powers off after a short amount of time. I've gone through the settings and haven't found anything that would fix this and I'm not exactly sure how to change something like this through the terminal (although I assume it is possible).
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Manjaro bootup freezes on logo before Login
Posted by: LMalilil - 07-05-2020, 08:13 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (26)

I am not very linux savy. I tried to connect a printer but my laptop froze and I had to force shutdown. Now Manjaro wont boot past the initial logo. The mouse cursor shows up but the login screen doesn't and the white manjaro logo remains. Accessing tty to try to update works but nothing changes when I reboot. I use this thing for basic work stuff but now its useless to me becsuse I bought a product I don't know enough about to fix. Any help is much appreciated

getting Geary working well on mobile is definitely in the works
Posted by: chris_02 - 07-05-2020, 03:54 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (3)

some news from the team developing geary:

Adrien Plazas has been working on the responsive UI for mobile-sized screens, and Chris Heywood has been looking into improving data management for mobile-sized storage. Some of that will land in 3.38, and more will come in latter releases.

As always, Geary is a community project, so if anyone is experiencing mobile-specific problems, please report the issue and feel free to dive in with fixes and improvements: https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Geary/Contribute
