New to PinePhone - one basic question
Posted by: Mike X - 07-15-2020, 06:31 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (2)

(My apologies in advance if I've posted this in the wrong forum. I think this is the right one, but...)

I just found out about the PinePhone and I'd love to try one and see what it's like.

My main question is "Can the PinePhone run android apps?" Is there some way to do that?

(I realize this probably isn't a straight yes or no answer to this and that it's probably been asked a thousand times. I searched the forum a bit but couldn't find a clear discussion on this, so I'm sorry if this is an oft-repeated question.)

If the answer is just plain 'no', that'll tell me something and I can go from there.

If the answer is 'yes' or 'sort of yes' or 'maybe' or 'it depends', then great- anything you can tell me along those lines would be welcome, or maybe point me to some discussion threads here that I can read through.

Thank you in advance.

  My Daily Manual QA
Posted by: plainenough - 07-15-2020, 05:28 PM - Forum: UBPorts on PinePhone - Replies (40)

For a few weeks now I have been running through some simple QA on my pinephone. Things to note:

I am running on the development channel.
I only test after a successful OTA update.
I have limited my scope to what I consider requirements for a daily driver.  (SMS, Calls, general sound quality, wifi, clock accuracy, etc. etc.)

Here are my results for today:
Wifi: seems fairly stable after reboot.
Boot time: No noticeable difference compared to day before. (~1 minute)
SMS in: Works as expected
SMS out: Works as expected
Calls out: Call failed
Calls in: Connects. no audio either direction.  (iphone and android)
Camera front: Black screen
Camera back: Black screen
Loud speaker: distorted audio from web browser

Noticeable issues:
Lockscreen wakes up without notification or interaction periodically (3-5 times per hour)
Lockscreen clock lags behind until unlock then corrects itself (over the course of the day by over an hour)
LED stays engaged after hitting the lock button multiple times. Requires another click or a full unlock to disable LED.
After hours of idle phone unable to send texts or receive calls until reboot. (warm reboot)

Results of manual QA: Fail.
Phone not ready to trial daily driver.

If you would like to see more simple manual tests, or if you test something different feel free to post your reports.

  Did my order go through?
Posted by: kacperski1 - 07-15-2020, 03:01 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (2)

Hello!

I just bought the new batch of the PinePhone with the convergence kit.
My payment went through but on the page I was redirected to there was no shipping info nor anything else really - the site was overall working very slowly too.
I also got no confirmation e-mail except the ones from my bank and from PayPal.
I am worried my order didn't actually get through somehow, or rather got through partially, hence my question.

Thanks for any help!

  PinePhone - VAT in order
Posted by: petrmasek - 07-15-2020, 02:21 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (7)

Hi,

I want to order one Pinephone but there is VAT $42 for Hongkong in my order. I'm from Czech republic from EU. Will I pay the VAT twice (Hongkong and Czech republic)? Or how does it work with VAT? I don't want to pay the VAT twice.

  Power plug in boots Phone
Posted by: StephanM - 07-15-2020, 01:07 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (7)

Hello everyone

I received the Pinephone last week and I am happy with it. There is however one thing that I would like to share with the community: When the Pinephone is off and I plugin the powersupply the phone boots immediately. It does so from eMMC and/or SD Card and with Ubuntu Touch as well as Mobian installed.
This is occasionally inconvenient, which is why I would like to know whether this is also the case with you and whether something can be done about it.

Thank you so much and best regards!

  OpenWRT installation guide for RockPro64
Posted by: Summer - 07-15-2020, 11:08 AM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCKPRO64 - Replies (1)

Hi there,

I’d like to install OpenWRT in the PINE RockPro64 (followed the installation instructions here: https://openwrt.org/inbox/toh/pine64/pin...pro64_v2.1) but I have a problem now.

I’ve downloaded the OpenWRT image from here: https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/...hip/armv8/ and flashed it into a 64GB microSD card.
When I insert the microSD card to RockPro64 and plugged in the power, there is no response. The display was black and showed nothing.

Does anyone install OpenWRT in RockPro64 before? Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!

It's been fun, but time to sell
Posted by: chetchinglo - 07-15-2020, 10:35 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (5)

I've had fun tinkering around with the Pro, but I think it's time I let someone with more experience contribute to the Pro community.  Really, the nail in the coffin is lack of reliable sleep mode.  This can't be my daily driver without it.

1) Is $160 + shipping a fair price for a used systme?
2) What's the safest way to remove my personal data while keeping the system usable? I don't to want to mess anything up on the boot side.

Thanks.

How to get code from my computer to my PinePhone
Posted by: ragreenburg - 07-15-2020, 10:22 AM - Forum: UBPorts on PinePhone - Replies (14)

I have been working on a QML program and have been obviously doing it on my computer but my PinePhone won't let me log into GitLab and will let me log into GitHub but won't let me download my code. Any idea on how to transfer my code over to my PinePhone? I was thinking of doing a libertine container for git but that isn't working right now unfortunately.

mobian doesn't set sysclock from hwclock on boot
Posted by: bingo600 - 07-15-2020, 09:50 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - No Replies

It's now 2'nd or 3rd time my PP CE boots up woth a date in year 2115 (why 2115)

The cure is to do a : hwclock -s
So the hwclock is correct , but the sysclock is waaaayy off.
If this wasn't a battery device NTP would be the solution , but here a hwclock -s seems to be the fix

I'm on "latest" apt-get update/upgrade as of today 2020-07-15

Fresh ssh after reboot

mobian@mobian:~$ date
Fri Sep  6 23:43:51 CEST 2115

mobian@mobian:~$ sudo -i
[sudo] password for mobian:
root@mobian:~#
root@mobian:~# hwclock -s
root@mobian:~# date

OOpzz

Might be a bit fast (in being on the latest)

I did an apt update just before reboot , it "barfed" at me.
I did an apt-get update + upgrade , and it installed a few things.

Then i discovered the date was wrong, and wrote the above.

But now
apt update  shows 70 packages can be upgraded

Will do them asap

But the hwclock -s might not be fixed ... Anyone ?

/Bingo

Well that took a few reboots

I still have 4 packages held back, even w. dist-upgrade

Any hints ??

Are they held back because of unstable ??
