  SIM Card not recognized . . .
Posted by: finphone - 07-21-2020, 06:16 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Hello everyone, just received my pine phone but it's not recognizing my SIM card.  I'm in the USA, would anyone happen to know if the phone works with MetroPCS SIM cards?  I assumed they did since metro is now t-mobile.  Thanks in advance!

Rockpro64 am I asking to much of a SBC?
Posted by: GreyLinux - 07-21-2020, 04:53 AM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCKPRO64 - Replies (3)

Hi all,

first post on the forum, although I have been observing the forum as a guest for a long time.

I currently have an Odroid HC1 for a home assistant server and I have another Odroid HC1, which used to serve nextcloud for 4 years , but now I'm trying my hand at an OpenMediaVault installation with docker .
I've been dabbling in setting up a Nginx reverse proxy container and radicale caldav server container setup which I believe is working how I would expect , after weeks of research . Most recently I been looking into  a Jellyfin media server which I mostly got working, however researching odroid's hardware acceleration options to aid transcoding for Jellyfin, has caused me to rethink my entire server network and consider a 4gb Rockpro64 with NAS case for both home assistant and the OpenMediaVault  server.

My plan is to have Armbian as the OS , OpenMediaVault  installed via the script they provide for SBC's , Nginx reverse proxy in docker with a radicale container as one server behind the proxy and home assistant as the other server .

This would allow me to close one of the ports on my router (8123 for homeassistant) (443 and 80 currently are being used for Nginx) and allow me to remove 2 Odroids in place of one rockpro64.

Is this asking to much of the Rockpro64 ?

is the above mentioned plan the way to go ?

I've become a fan of pine64 in the last couple of years mainly  because of it's philosophy and as my first device I went all in and purchased a PineTab which I'm eagerly  waiting for , but ideally I would like to support them further and convert from the Odroids to a Rockpor64.

any advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated .

thanks in advance .

Tim

  Pinephone Revisions
Posted by: drkarl - 07-21-2020, 02:27 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (3)

Hi,

    I've read the following quote:

"According to Lukasz they went through three revisions of the 1.2 mainboard already (1.2A 1.2B 1.2C)"

I've there's already revision 1.2C why the current batch is 1.2A? What are the differences between revisions 1.2A, 12B and 12C ? I suppose it's fixes, Will next batch be 1.2C or 1.2B?

Thanks very much.

Kind regards

  Alternative phone call apps?
Posted by: Subsentient - 07-20-2020, 03:18 PM - Forum: PinePhone Software - Replies (5)

So I've been using Purism's "Calls" app since I got my PinePhone, but it's honestly quite buggy and irritating, I'd like to use something else.

Problem is, I'm on X11 and Fedora, so I can't just use UBPort's stuff I assume since it's more Ubuntu specific.

Is there anything else that can make calls, preferably through ModemManager, from a generic Xorg distro?

I can't find any good working alternatives. I can compile it myself, just need to find some completed code.

  FCC/CE certificate
Posted by: pstickar - 07-20-2020, 12:56 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Hello people

Does the new batch have the FCC/CE certificate?

I've seen the January post stating that there is no FCC/CE certificate, and that was a custom problem in Germany, where I live. At that point in time it was estimated that the certificate would ready in February ... but there are May and June posts saying that the phones could not pass customs. And they had to be returned.

I understand that the Covid-19 outbreak might have changed a lot of plans and deadlines.

Thank you very much in advance.

Kind regards,
p.

First time user really confused - need a how-to
Posted by: binkyd - 07-20-2020, 12:46 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (8)

Just got a BraveHeart.

Where can I find a tutorial or a how-to for this?

And what about Ubports?  I am unable for some reason to sign up there.

So can somebody point me to where I can learn about this phone?

Huh  Angry

  Alarm clock doesn’t work
Posted by: Captain1ndustry - 07-20-2020, 12:45 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (14)

I don’t know where else to post this, but the alarm clock function in the clock app does not work. I updated as recently as yesterday evening. Just putting this out there again, if there is a better place for trivial bug reports please direct me there. Thanks again for all the amazing work and rapid progress to this point.

  Failure to install gcc
Posted by: hvdkooij - 07-20-2020, 09:29 AM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

Hi,

I am not that well versed in how the packaging works in Manjaro. But it feels rather feeble.

So far I am unable to install gcc as it requires another package which the system is unable to find.

[hvdk@pinebook ~]$ sudo pacman -S gcc

Pakketten (5) binutils-2.34-2  elfutils-0.180-1  libmicrohttpd-0.9.70-3  libmpc-1.1.0-2

Totale Download Grootte:          0,19 MiB
Totale Geïnstalleerde Grootte:  143,29 MiB

fout:kan het bestand 'libmicrohttpd-0.9.70-3-aarch64.pkg.tar.xz' niet ophalen van mirror.ufro.cl : The requested URL returned error: 404

......

To be honest it feels rather inmature.

Is there a soultion except installing a more mature distribution on the pinebook Pro?

Regards, Hugo.

Booting OS from SD card: consistency issue
Posted by: pivic - 07-20-2020, 08:55 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (8)

Hey there!

I've searched the forum profoundly and I apologise if I have missed any solution that's already out there.

I've used Etcher to flash operating systems to my SD card, and they do boot from my brand-new Pinebook Pro that's running a fairly untouched Manjaro OS.

I have my SD card inserted properly in my Pinebook Pro and it boots from the SD about 30% of the time. The behaviour is the same for after a complete shutdown and a restart. I've tried two different OSs so far, with the same result.

When I cold start the computer I've tried to hold the power button down just slightly until the power light comes on and then release it, to holding the power button down for a longer period of time. It doesn't matter which I try.

I've spotted this forum post that mentions upgrading/replacing uboot, but I'm far too much of a noob to understand whether that would work in my case or how to perform it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.
