I was just thinkng how much I use heySMS on my N900 and there is no android or apple app similar to bridge SMS via pidgin to my linux computer.

  Rockpro64 RAM issues

Hi All,

What methods are you using to test memory? I have clear Debian install(not depends what distribution is used) and when the bigger size of memory is allocated with memtester and shows multiple failures.

The same not depending from power source 12v3A and 12v5A was tested:

Code:
debian@rockpro64:~/linux-build$ sudo memtester 3000M
memtester version 4.3.0 (64-bit)

pagesize is 4096
pagesizemask is 0xfffffffffffff000
want 3000MB (3145728000 bytes)

Why I am testing is that Debian crashes during regular operations. Rsync is not usable including any other higher load tasks which finishes with random backtraces.

Suddenly only 1/4 the RAM [1GB model shipped as 4GB]
Posted by: ejolson - 09-14-2020, 10:46 PM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCK64 - Replies (6)

Edit:  It turns out a 1GB model was shipped in the box labeled as 4GB, so that's why only 1/4 the memory was being detected, see the posts later in this thread.  I think it's too late for a replacement, but if anyone knows how to arrange this, I'd very much appreciate it.

I set up two identically configured Rock64 boards last month.  The first experienced segmentation faults while compiling with gcc as described in the thread

https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=11209

This was solved by slowing the memory clock from 786 MHz to 400 MHz.  The second worked well for a little under a month but is now booting with only 1GB out of the expected 4GB detected.

I swapped cards between the two machines.  The problem did not move with the cards but remained with the second Rock64 hardware.  I also reformatted two other SD cards and tried both the current and legacy builds of Armbian Debian server.  Note that I was running Armbian Focal Fossa before.  The newly formatted cards booted right up, but the memory remains at 1GB rather than 4GB.

Is it possible there was a defective solder join on the system?  Could the RAM itself have developed a fault?  Since the circuit boards have been safely mounted on standoffs away from any dangers for the entire time, I am surprised with my bad luck:  One didn't run reliably at the default clock speeds and the other just started to report only 1/4 of the expected RAM.

As already mentioned, lowering the clock speed on the first machine has stabilized it and I'm happy.  Does anyone know what to do to get my 4GB RAM back on the other?  Having only 1GB is unfit for purpose.

  Aftermarket branded back cover
Posted by: deedend - 09-14-2020, 08:32 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (1)

I was wondering if you guys, have ever considered to sell the branded back cover as an aftermarket part. I would love to be able to buy the cover that I like the most, possibly giving a part of the money to the project it represent, it could be a great way to donate to the community in a different way. What do you think, would it be economically sustainable, or isn't worth it?
I would happily pay 5/6$ more for a branded back cover, knowing that part of the price surplus goes to my favourite project (instead of having to wait for a community version that match my preference).

Failing to install usb wifi adapter Debian older PBP
Posted by: AaronMFeld - 09-14-2020, 07:42 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - No Replies

Hey, I have been trying to install the driver for the BrosTrend AC650 Long Range USB Wi-Fi Adapter https://www.trendtechcn.com/Product.aspx...2&TypeId=2

The software provided by trendtech requires kernel headers, which make sense.  But no matter what I try, I cannot find/install the kernel headers for the Debian Distribution that shipped with the PBP. I guess I could blast away the Debian and install Manjaro Sad which I assume includes the kernel headers

Any help, ideas, or otherwise greatly appreciated!

Posted by: Corey_R - 09-14-2020, 07:10 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

i just got my pinebook pro today and i am struggling to install emacs. i used the command sudo pacman -S emacs. but i continually get an error that it has not installed or updated any packages. is there a different way to do this? i am fairly new to manjaro. i mostly have used unbuntu in the past.

  Blank display on boot
Posted by: kwyjibot - 09-14-2020, 06:59 PM - Forum: PineTab Hardware - Replies (5)

I received my pinetab last week and was enjoying it immensely.  On the second or third night I left it charging, and when I came back to it, the backlight will come on but the display no longer works.

I was running mobian on microSD, removed and rebooted (held power down more then the recommended 10s) but I still get no display beyond the backlight, not even a splash screen on boot).  I've tried using the miniHDMI but get no display on a known good monitor either.  I booted off the latest pinetime jumpdrive image and can access it over microUSB, but I'm concerned I no longer have a working display.

Has anyone seen something similar or can suggest any troubleshooting?

  Wifi on Manjaro
Posted by: User 19517 - 09-14-2020, 06:53 PM - Forum: Linux on RockPro64 - No Replies

Hi guys, new RockPro64 user here. I love my board and have been using it with Manjaro for some time. Yesterday I finally got the WiFi/BT module but so far I only managed to get the Bluetooth working. I know there are some issues when it comes to something called SDIO and PCIe bus, conflicts and stuff and that’s why the WiFi has been intentionally disabled in manjaro. (It works perfectly in Debian but I like manjaro better and also pacman is the boss). Do you happen to know how to make this work or if there are any planned updates to make this WiFi board available? The last thing I found about this being mentioned dates back to 2018.
I have been told to use a USB stick but I don’t know what to buy and honestly I’d rather get this board working. Thanks a lot.

Incorrect keyboard behavior for X11 apps (like Java)
Posted by: Saliency - 09-14-2020, 05:14 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - No Replies

When I run Java-based apps or apps other frameworks under Phosh/Xwayland, the keyboard input doesn't work as expected.  For example, in a Java JTextField, the backspace key generates an "=" symbol, and many keys do nothing or result in punctuation marks.

Does anyone know what the problem is, and how to solve it?
