  Back cover plastic woes
Posted by: mteagles1942 - 03-22-2021, 08:29 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (6)

I finally received my phone and the second day I apparently snapped the thin plastic in between the volume and power buttons.  When the back cover was removed the buttons fell off.  With a careful hand I was able to put it back together and buttons are working, however now I am afraid to take the cover off again when needed.

I could go on blah blah.  My only question is does anyone know of a ETA on back cover https://pine64.com/product/pinephone-bac...46c16e2e66  availability?

thanks everybody

can the PBP draw more than 3A from the barrel socket?
Posted by: dieselnutjob - 03-22-2021, 04:31 AM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (2)

I bought a Syncwire dual 3A charger and a USB to H barrel cable from the Pine64 shop to try out.
I thought that this would be useful for travelling because it should be able to charge the PBP and a phone at the same time.
Initially it worked well but then I hit a problem.
One day I let the PBP run totally flat, and the Syncwire would not recharge it.
I put this down to experience and suspected that the Syncwire was not performing to spec, but then last week a youtube video popped up with a fellow connecting a USB-C second monitor, and in the video he says that by connected a 5A power supply to the PBP it could run the monitor on a higher brightness than is possible with the standard 3A one.

This got me thinking that if the PBP is capable of pulling more than 3A then maybe when it is totally flat that it does, and maybe this causes the Syncwire to protect itself and shutdown?

Is this possible?

How does a totally dead PBP will recharge from the stock power supply?  Does it just current limit by reducing its input voltage?

Pinephone not receiving SMS. SMS not showing on modem either.
Posted by: norbear - 03-21-2021, 09:38 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Haven't received sms for about a week. I am able to send SMS. I am on Mobian and phosh. My carrier is Verizon

Here is what I have tried:

  • running the mmcli to check for and delete sms. However MMCLI claims there is no messages.
  • Janky-mms which I think probably just uses mmcli and had the same result.
  • minicom -D /dev/ttyUSB2 with a couple of different commands (I can't find where I got these commands but they were supposed to clear the cache and reset the modem I think.)
  • Changing APN
  • Ran the following to check for messages on modem. Like above it showed nothing
    Code:
    socat - /dev/ttyUSB10,crnl
    AT+CMGL

I don't know if Journalctl shows anything interseting but here it is should anyone want to see it

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sad Problems with PINE64 Support
Posted by: Astilex - 03-21-2021, 06:15 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Hello all,

Has anyone had issues with support before? I had bought a Mobian CE Edition and it came to me defective. I sent it back to Pine64 for RMA at the start of March and now my Phone seems to be in limbo. Also trying to get answers from support is like pulling teeth from a lion.

I was really happy when I got my PinePhone and I even bought a Pinecil to support Pine64 more however I am beginning to feel... Regret, Anger, I'm not sure.

All I know is I bought a phone, it came to me broken, I had to pay MORE money to get it fixed, and now I have no clue where it is.

I'm not sure what to do anymore. Has anyone else experienced this?

Best,
Astilex

Sell me your broken keyboard for parts?
Posted by: Timpanogos Slim - 03-21-2021, 01:39 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - No Replies

Cat was less than careful around my pinebook pro and did something that resulted in it landing hard on the floor and losing two keycaps.

I only found one of the missing caps and the hinge is broken.

Naturally, the ANSI keyboard replacement is still out of stock and i figure buying an Iso replacement so i can pull two caps off of it and put them on my ANSI is sub-optimal.

Specifically, I need the M and comma keys.

  Pinecil power
Posted by: Erincka - 03-21-2021, 11:52 AM - Forum: Getting Started - No Replies

Hello, in the pinecil wiki it is written:

Quote:
  • The first batch of Pinecil's were rated 12-24v @ 65W. After some heated discussion on the discussion group, it was decided that it would be downgraded to 12-21V @ 60W, due to concern over the connection of the DC jack to the USB-PD chip, which has a recommended maximum of 21v, and absolute maximum of 28v.

Can I use this charger knowing it's 65W? Or does it risk damaging the pinecil ?

  User experience

I have now had my Pinebook Pro for one year.

The Pinebook Pro is an amazing project and I'm pleased to have taken part.

I continue to be amazed at the pace of development of the Manjaro OS.

But an experiment it remains and it is certainly not what it continues to be touted to be on the Pine64 website: it is certainly NOT A SOLID LINUX DAY TO DAY EXPERIENCE.

About six months into my experience, one of the rubber feet sheared off. SAV said I had to buy a new bottom case, which I did.

Taking the original bottom case off I realised that most, if not all of the screws were loose and furthermore that the original bottom case was too big for the plastic chassis, which meant that to fit it, it had to be buckled. Perhaps this stress had been why the screws had worked loose.

In any case, the screws were still in perfect condition, so I used them to fit the new bottom case. Seeking advice on the forum, I bought some Loctite thread locker in the hope that this time the case would stay together.

Unfortunately, five out of the ten screws have now sheared: the short screws at the front and on the sides.

All I wanted was a backup machine to my AIO Dell.

The linux world oversold this machine but the reviewers were in part relaying the message put out by Pine64 of "a solid day to day linux experience".

It's time to move on.

In the meantime I imagine that Pine64 have come to realise that they need to have the internal skills and know-how to oversee their Chinese subcontractors.

ALERT: The hard "protective" case sucks!
Posted by: KNERD - 03-20-2021, 02:06 PM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (13)

So, unknown to me, my PinePhone slips under the seat, and ends up sliding between the passenger seat and the door.

I open the passenger door, and out falls the PhonePhone on to the street

Just look how much "protection" it gave

https://imgur.com/a/1gR27DP

And I just replaced the screen before getting this after a previous fall so another cracked screen would not happen again..

Something needs to be done about this

  SFOS 4.0.1.48
Posted by: defactofactotum - 03-20-2021, 09:43 AM - Forum: SailfishOS on PinePhone - Replies (8)

The flash-it script now builds SFOS 4.0.1.48.
If some apps don't open from the home screen, run
devel-su zypper install qtscenegraph-adaptation
and reboot.
I haven't time to test but almost everything works except: camera, email, GPS.
