  Screen or motherboard replacement?
Posted by: Static Face - 06-07-2021, 04:56 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (2)

Good day,

I have an issue with my UB Ports CE PinePhone. I am trying to figure out if I need to replace just the screen, or if the motherboard needs to be replaced as well.

At one point, I cracked my screen, but it still worked for the longest time. I did remove the two components for the VCONN issue, and again, it worked fine.

I think I may have damaged the phone further recently when I accidently stepped on it :| The touch screen does not function any more, but I can use a keyboard/mouse just fine.

I have tried two different distros that had previously worked, Manjaro and Mobian.

Here is the output from the serial console on bootup with Manjaro. The transfer errors just continue on and on.

Bug Pinebook Pro NVME stopped working
Posted by: secretagentdude - 06-06-2021, 04:41 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (4)

Got my Pinebook Pro in earlier this week and have been loving it. Using it with a P1 Crucial NVMe M.2 as the OS drive /boot/ and / . I have wrote the updated uboot to the SPI to boot directly to the NVMe. Laptop had been working great until the battery died for the first time yesterday. Since then I've been unable to boot from the drive nor mount it in any OS. I've install Manjaro XFCE on the EMMC for now, but would like to regain use of the NVME drive.

I have tried mounting the drive on another Linux box with a USB enclosure and everything worked great. All my files are there and it mounted without issue. I've booted into OSes on SD and EMMC and have had no success seeing the SSD with the PBPro. Uboot does list the SSD on boot, but would fail to boot after 3 minutes of trying everytime. I have backed up and zeroed out the boot partition to see if I could mount it as a home drive with something booting off emmc. [Image: lItnrht] ( https://imgur.com/lItnrht )

Booting of emmc this is the error in dmesg. Any help would be appreciated, I'm kinda stumped to be honest

I'm unable to open downloaded programs
Posted by: hayduke - 06-06-2021, 04:17 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (9)

I just got my pinebook pro. I've downloaded two different programs through the repository but am unable to get them to open. I'm not new to Linux but I've tried everything I know to no avail. The two programs were the gufw firewall and the hp device manager. I had already downloaded the cups hplip program. Help.

  LuneOs Questions
Posted by: luney - 06-06-2021, 02:29 PM - Forum: Lune OS on PinePhone - Replies (3)

Hello,

I have a few questions that I hope that the community might be able to answer.

I have had difficulty finding info on LuneOS. The webos-ports wiki is useful, but I was wondering if there is a community outside Pinephone forums where I can find more information or ask questions? Does anyone know an alternative? The github for the Luneos Pinephone build seems to have outdated info. For example, it states that wifi doesn't work, but wifi works on my Pinephone, so that is not up to date.

My other question is regarding preware2. It doesn't work on my pinephone. I am assuming that it doesn't function yet. Can anyone verify that it doesn't work and isn't just my build that isn't functioning?

Also, the system reports in terminal that the linux version is LuneOs. Does anyone know which flavor of linux is running the pinephone version? Most versions are android based, but the pinephone build is linux?

I get that this is niche OS and there probably isn't many folks working on it, but I I think the base UI works really well on the Pinephone. I am hoping that I can edit and fix from the phone itself instead of an external build.

Question How to Save Read Only Files, Questions on Location
Posted by: lovepine88 - 06-06-2021, 02:08 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (8)

I am trying to edit the geoclue.conf file, but it says it's read only. I don't know how to change that.  Huh  I am using Thunar. I got into su mode in king's cross, but not sure that helped.

Also, I have the modem disabled. Will pinephone still be able to know my location via gsm chips built into the hardware even if I edit geoclue?

In other words, if the modem is off and there's no SIM chip, am I still connected to a satalite anyway?

Lightbulb Python3 - GPIO - controlling LED's etc
Posted by: bonce - 06-06-2021, 09:27 AM - Forum: PinePhone Software - Replies (1)

Massive apologies if I've poked this thread in the wrong place, or it's been answered a thousand times already, I searched in the forum for suitable things, but couldn't find anything.

So, probably a quick question, I want to play with the status LED through Python3. Is there a pre-existing GPIO library that works against the Pinephones GPIO implementation?

I know it's at least theoretically possible as on xnux's site there's a LED page (PinePhone LEDs (xnux.eu)) and having a play around and looking at the uboot-script.cmd for Postmarket, that's fiddling with GPIO on boot (just not in Python-land).

I do see there are a few posts around the Rockchip on the Pine64 boards for pythonic GPIO control, but I wasn't sure if the Pinephone and the Pine64's had vastly different GPIO implementations.

Development environment live-iso for cross compilation, etc?

I've looked all over the web for a x86_64 developer / cross compiler live iso.

Preferably without  GUI. Anybody? Any hints?

  How to install software
Posted by: AndyM - 06-06-2021, 07:53 AM - Forum: PostmarketOS on PinePhone - Replies (8)

I think that perhaps I need to add some more repositories in order to install some more software. For example:

lingot
pysolfc

for lingot I simply get

$ sudo apk add lingot
[sudo] password for user:
fetch http://mirror.postmarketos.org/postmarke...DEX.tar.gz
fetch http://dl-cdn.alpinelinux.org/alpine/v3....DEX.tar.gz
fetch http://dl-cdn.alpinelinux.org/alpine/v3....DEX.tar.gz
ERROR: unable to select packages:
  lingot (no such package):
    required by: world[lingot]

If I try:
$ sudo apk search -v -d pysol
I get
py3-pysol-cards-0.10.1-r0 - Deal PySol FC Cards

$ sudo apk add (any one of:
for pysol, pysolfc, py3-pysol) I get the same result

I have not used alpine before, so I am learning ... slowly Smile

Thanks

Andrew

closing apps rather than leaving them running (phosh)
Posted by: lordearl - 06-06-2021, 07:28 AM - Forum: PostmarketOS on PinePhone - Replies (7)

Has anyone managed to actually close apps rather than leaving them running on phosh?

Ie. if you open an app (say "settings") then the only option is to minimise it and have it sitting in the home screen, which then moves all the other app icons to a lower position in the home screen

I understand that it is useful to be able to have a few applications open for ease of multi-tasking, but is there a way to force stop an app so it does not sit on the home screen after it has been opened?
