Chatty, SMS does not work - could hardware be at fault? |

After the Lamination Issue wrecked my old Pinephone, I received a new one yesterday and installed the latest Mobian nightly.
However, I cannot send or receive text messages via Chatty.
At first I thought Mobian Bookworm is at fault. But it seems to be a hardware issue: SMS does not work either, when I boot Mobian Bullseye from an SD card.
By contrast, when I boot from the very same card on my old phone, SMS works. The standard installation of course works as well. Also, I can make an receive calls on both phones.
Since the same Mobian istallation on the same SD card works on one phone and not on the other I don't have any other explanation than a hardware issue.
Could that be? Any ideas?

Hi, there i've tried searching it but I don't can't seem to find anything.
Does anyone know a way to remove the lock screen on mobian? or any OS for pinephone.
Its annoying to have to type it in each time.
But for myself I want to lock the cellphone for parental controls, If i remove the screen lock I can download appropriate apps basically removing the web. So it can be used as a talk and text phone

Is X11 Screen Rotation Possible? |

I'm using X11, not Wayland, on my PinePhone and I'd love to be able to rotate the screen. Has anyone managed to do this? Or maybe someone has it working on another Pine64 device?
My XFCE display settings tell me my monitor is called "default" and the drop-down for Rotate is disabled.
I tried:
Code: xrandr --output default --rotate right
and it tells me rotation isn't supported.
Looking around it seems my PinePhone's monitor should be detected as "DSI-1" so why is it using "default"?
I tried to add a config:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-monitor.conf
Code: Section "Monitor"
Identifier "DSI-1"
Option "Rotate" "right"
EndSection
but it had no effect, because I think X11 still doesn't know my monitor is "DSI-1". How should it be detected?
One last thing I tried was adding:
Code: Option "Rotate" "CW"
to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-fbturbo.conf
but that stops X from starting altogether and in the Xorg.0.log it says XRandR rotation is being disabled, so that's obviously a no-go.
Can anyone help?

Hypothetical Pine Phone 2.0? |

So let's say we go 3 years into the future and Phosh, and Plasma Mobile and super stable and have a nice, complete ecosystem, similar to iOS/Android. At this point the only thing holding back more people from getting a Pine Phone is that the hardware is old and slow. If this happened could we do a PinePhone 2.0 that is a more mid ranged phone (like $400) as apposed to the low end phone we have now?
I understand why the PP is a low end phone, more people get a phone to report issues and bug and potentially develop for it. But it sure would be nice to have a device that is more capable at some point.

NO Carrier needed ? |

Can Pine supply us with a 'Communication Device' that does not require a "Carrier" or other type of 'Man in the Middle' ?
Even just a few miles of range could be a good starting point.
When the cell service goes down or gets too many users, you cannot communicate with anyone.
While normally service is ok 'here' there are times when there is no service here. >(sometimes for hours)
I do like my Pine phone(s) a lot,
But I would like to have some kind of personal communication device(s) that do not rely on outside sources to function.

Oooops...it won't work on Linux!
Quote:...the government of South Australia, one of the country’s six states, developed and is now testing an app as Orwellian as any in the free world to enforce its quarantine rules. Returning travelers quarantining at home will be forced to download an app that combines facial recognition and geolocation. The state will text them at random times, and thereafter they will have 15 minutes to take a picture of their face in the location where they are supposed to be. Should they fail, the local police department will be sent to follow up in person. “We don’t tell them how often or when, on a random basis they have to reply within 15 minutes,” Premier Steven Marshall explained. “I think every South Australian should feel pretty proud that we are the national pilot for the home-based quarantine app.”

RK3399 vs RK3566 ? |

Hi
I am interested in my own open source project to use one of these SoCs.
I wanted to post my thoughts to see if I have come to any incorrect conclusions.
RK3399
More powerful.
Easier to develop mainline Linux on right now, but maybe not a difference longer term?
RK3566
Lower power consumption. Maybe better option without heatsink.
Much newer so maybe better long term.
Newer version of Android.
One thing I like about the RK3399 is that if an internal eMMC is corrupted or something then one can just put an SD card in and boot that, so I would say very safe from bricking. OK that creates some security issues for normal device manufacturers (I guess) but for open source hacking it's great. Is the RK3566 the same?
I already have a Pinebook Pro (RK3399) and I have ordered a Quartz64 to have a look at, I hope it can boot from SD card.
I am interested in Linux and LineageOS porting and development right now. Interested but not experienced, and I would like to learn.
Anyone think I got any of this wrong please tell me.

SFOS 4.2 |

the flash-it script now builds sfos 4.2, with an option for encryption of the home directory (with a longer password) and the lockscreen problem has been solved. Work is progressing fast on an overhaul/update of ofono, which could finally give reliable calls. We are very near to daily driving, if you can do without a camera.
