  Sxmo with Wayland support released!
Posted by: lat - 11-16-2021, 07:58 AM - Forum: Arch Linux on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Sxmo's latest release 1.6.0 has Wayland (Sway) support now!  Would be so great to have it packaged with Arch!  I had this in my dreams, and now it looks like a close reality - seems just the matter for @Danct12 / Dreemurrs Labs to package it.  I'm looking forward to it so much, and glad I supported both projects! Smile

  Pinebook Pro not powering on
Posted by: wantageek - 11-16-2021, 01:52 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (28)

Hi, I have a problem I hope that I hope someone out there can help me with. I love my Pinebook Pro and it's a nightmare without it!

I was performing updates and screen went black. No power light. It was on 94% battery when I started. Initially I thought that it went to sleep but it wasn't waking up. I eventually tried to hard power off by holding the power button down for several seconds and trying to power it up again. There was no lights or anything.

Charged for several hours with the Pine Power, could see the amps draw run down to 0 and charging light went off.

Tried powering on, nothing.

Followed the wiki and read some other forum posts and tried the following.

Resat the eMMC, tried again, nothing. No power light, no response.
Switched the eMMC switch (24 on diagram) off and on again, still nothing.
Unhooked the battery, connected pass through, nothing.
Whilst battery was unhooked, tried it without an eMMC and put a fresh SD Card install of Manjaro. Still nothing.
The Pine Power was showing an amp draw when powering on without the battery though, so it does appear to be doing something. It went from 0a to 0.2a when initially powering, up to 0.5 as it is left on. No lights on board and not even a flicker of the monitor though.

Trued a USB-C monitor too but it's not turning on either.

What could be the problem and more importantly, how do I fix it?!

Waydroid error: not using Wayland. But I am!
Posted by: quixote - 11-15-2021, 09:31 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (7)

I'm stuck. I hope someone here can come up with a workaround! I'm using bookworm and Phosh, all up to date, on a Braveheart 1.1 phone. I installed by following the step-by-step on the Waydroid Site (https://waydro.id/ at bottom of page). There are no errors until I get to the second steps under "Running Waydroid."

Code:
sudo container waydroid start
errors:

Code:
[16:06:43] NOTE: The failed command's output is above the ^^^ line in the log file: /var/lib/waydroid/waydroid.log
[16:06:43] ERROR: Command failed: % mount /var/lib/waydroid/images/system.img /var/lib/waydroid/rootfs
[16:06:43] See also: <https://github.com/waydroid>
Run 'waydroid log' for details.

and
Code:
waydroid session start
tells me the XDG session is not Wayland. But both
Code:
$ echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
and
Code:
$ loginctl show-session 1 -p Type
returns "wayland" (I did check to make sure I had the right session)

Anyone have any idea what's going on? Or, even better, how to make it go away? Huh

(also posted this just now to Waydroid issues tab on github)

  Wi-Fi adapter suddenly gone missing
Posted by: Zebulon Walton - 11-15-2021, 04:05 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Suddenly wifi stopped working in my Mobian installation and "No Wi-Fi Adapter Found" is reported in settings.

It was working this morning, but although I've installed no updates and made no changes since then now it's gone. Booting up on my "known to work" SD card the wifi returns, so it is not a hardware problem. Anything else I can check before clobbering the eMMC with my last image backup? (I don't like to do that too often due to flash memory's limited write cycles.)

SMS apps in manjaro-plasma leave much room for improvement
Posted by: tckosvic - 11-15-2021, 07:53 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (8)

I am finding 2 SMS apps in plasma;  phonebook and Spacebar; neither of which provide near the smooth functionality of the chomp android app I use on other phone. I am sure there are other android SMS apps of equal proficient functionality.

If I am missing any other ones, please let me know.

Spacebar does send and receive SMS for me using a Consumer Cellular SIM card.  It has little functionality in forwarding, resending, reorganizing messages, etc.  It looks like you can delete message and copy message text.   Any more polished app available?

Phonebook gives two options after selecting a contact, Call and Send SMS.  Selecting Send SMS starts a dialogue :  "Device to send an SMS with:".  There is a blank box. You can't enter text into the box and there are no dropdown options available.  I don't know what it is looking for in "device".  Any suggestions of how to satisfy this request by the app?

The call option in Spacebar app asks for a device to use to make the call from the SIM card phone number on the phone and does not work.  I use the Phone app which does properly make phone calls though.

Phone app works fine for voice calls but SMS apps are really touch-and-go.  Anyone found any means to make an improvement to SMS text messages?

thanks,     tom kosvic

Hi,

I am not sure if it is an error from my end or the apk database has become unavailable. Since a few days ago I got errors while trying to update and upgrade via the terminal:

ERROR: Unable to lock database: temporary error (try again later)

  Manjaro Phosh Issues
Posted by: Csanderson0313 - 11-14-2021, 02:51 PM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (7)

I been using this as a daily driver for some time. Here are some issues that I noticed. Please let me know if anyone know how to fix.

-over heating if talking on the phone for more then 10 mins. It will get so hot that things will start to shut down.
-Once in a while the phone Mobile and text stuff will not work unless phone is restarted.
-Can not text or receive pictures
-Alarm Clock, Is there a way to change the sound on it? I tried going to Tweaks and download my own sound which it will show but will not use it when alarm sound.

Also..I am having no luck on using Manjaro Plasma. For some reason the Mobile and data will not work. Any Idea what it could be? I am with Verizon.

Thank You for any help

  Pinebook Pro Upgrade?
Posted by: StriderofRohan - 11-14-2021, 01:14 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (21)

Hello! I've been on the lookout for a Linux laptop with good hardware at a reasonable price and the Pinebook Pro immediately caught my eye. I love almost everything about the current Pinebook Pro but the hardware is looking a bit under-spec for my uses. I do a lot of photo editing, a bit of video editing, and creating and editing websites and doing any of this at a demanding scale is just not great on the current Pinebook Pro. So, to get to the point, would you guys over at Pine64 consider giving the Pinebook Pro an upgrade? Maybe putting your latest SBC with the 8GB of RAM and the Rockchip RK3566 in a new version of the Pinebook Pro would make a big difference for people doing heavier workloads like me! Anyways, let me know what you think.

Cheers (:

PINE64 meetup in Germany in 2022?
Posted by: Luke - 11-14-2021, 12:21 PM - Forum: Community and Events - Replies (18)

Hey guys, FOSDEM recently announced that next year's event will be virtual. It has now been two years since we're met with the community, and we're aching to see you guys in person again. So, we're thinking about arranging our own event in Germany sometime in May-July 2022.
What do you think? would you make the journey and participate in-person?

I know that many of you in the US, Asia and Oceania will still be unable to make it, so we'll make sure to have a portion of the meetup online, so everyone interest can participate.

I'd appreciate if you answer the poll, so I get a better idea whether arranging this event makes sense.

Bug Unreliable display in Armbian and Debian
Posted by: ksattic - 11-14-2021, 12:05 PM - Forum: Linux on RockPro64 - Replies (3)

Hi all, I have a RockPro64 4GB and I've tried Armbian, Debian and also a custom RISC OS build and I'm having display issues with each. I've tried different brand SD cards, different HDMI cables and different monitors.

Often when I boot into Linux, there is no display at all but DHCP is working. Sometimes the display goes black even if it comes up at boot.

Anything I should try?
