Megapixels - Camera App - Works w. Beta NOT Pro
Posted by: iwm - 01-05-2022, 01:51 PM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - Replies (3)

The MegaPixel app won't come up using the PPPro.   It does activate on the PPBeta.

I'm using Manjaro/Phosh Dev on both and update daily.

Still having problems w. Calls app - Speaker Phone not usable
Posted by: iwm - 01-05-2022, 01:32 PM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - Replies (3)

Been having problems with the PPP and the PP speaker for phone call.
Seems to have a lot of echos and the sound of running water.

The other interface (without speaker) works fine but still cuts out occasionally.

Hi
Can anyone tell me the supplier / part number for the vertical DDR3l 204 pn sockets used on the cluster board?
These are designated J1-J7 in the schematics. and have a name given as INS18014672, which I can't find any reference for.

Pierre

  Proposed feature: Flashlight mode
Posted by: Arwen - 01-05-2022, 08:38 AM - Forum: PineNote Software - Replies (4)

Most smart phones that have back facing cameras with flash, support a flashlight feature. Most of us could use the feature on occasion. I have actually used it once about 2 weeks ago, simply because my phone was in my jacket pocket and I did not have a flashlight handy. (Okay, the one in my vehicle was less than 5 feet from me, but hey, that would caused me to open my vehicle, open the glove box and then reverse when done.)

So, I propose a PineNote flashlight feature:

  • Makes most, (or all), of the screen white
  • Turns on all the front lights
  • Allow turning off with a swipe on screen
  • Perhaps any button press would turn the feature off

Checking the PineNote Wiki, it does not mention if the audio has up / down buttons, or if the power button is detectable. But, if any buttons do exist, have them detect short duration presses and shut off flashlight mode.

Nor does the PineNote Wiki indicate if the front LEDs for warm & cold are different devices, or the same. But, in any case, get the maximum brightness out of them. (User would understandably have to assume using up some / all of the battery charge. But, that may be more important than reading / using the PineNote at that time.)

Of course the amount of people that would use this is likely few. But, it should be simple enough to implement.

A while back when I was still using a feature phone, (aka more than a dumb cell-phone, but not smart / Android), it did not support a flash light mode. However, I have a Kindle Voyage with good front LEDs, (10 I think). So it would have been nice to have a flashlight mode for that Kindle. It can kinda work as is, but any black text would absorb some of the light. Best case, make a 1 page book with no black text and use that for "flashlight" mode.

  Cross compilation for Mobian
Posted by: nicolapcweek94 - 01-05-2022, 08:33 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (3)

As a heavy emacs user and early adopter of both the pinephone and the keyboard cover that I've ordered as soon as it was made available, I'd really like to get a build of the latest emacs tree (with PGTK and nativecomp patches, which should really help with both performance and mobile compatibility) going, especially with the keyboard on its way.

I have extensive experience with building emacs itself, both with and without the patches, for amd64. I have no idea how to setup a cross compiler toolchain to build a arm64 package for the pinephone on my amd64 server, though, especially with the gcc toolchain which is supposedly harder to setup for cross compilation.

I'm also looking to setup the whole thing as a repo with a weekly or daily build job, if the repo setup doesn't require too much maintenance, which I'd gladly share if anyone's interested.

Does anyone have any pointers?

Question Powering the modem after turning off the smartphone
Posted by: Mikoduso - 01-05-2022, 06:41 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (3)

Hello.

I don't understand well in block diagrams, but looking at "PinePhone v1.2b Released Schematic.pdf" I see that the modem is connected directly to the battery.

Will the modem have power after turning off the smartphone?

  Mainline MMS Support??
Posted by: tyha - 01-05-2022, 12:03 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (2)

I've been checking the Mobian wiki every month or so to see if the MMS workarounds have been mainlined, so that it no longer required as much manual intervention, but I haven't really seen any changes there as I've been waiting for that to happen before trying to install for a daily driver try.

Then I read the Mobian blog post that seems to indicate that they have Pinephone pro working with MMS being fully functional with the use of the eg25 manager.

Does anyone know if this means that the wiki is out of date and the workarounds are no longer needed?

Microphone on Hardware Model 1.2 is Unusably Noisy In Some Circomstances
Posted by: ASmartSuitedSimpleton - 01-04-2022, 05:36 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (4)

I should start by saying I have found a way to temporarily fix the issue on my pinephone, but hopefully this will be useful for others regardless.

I received my pinephone roughly 7 months prier to this post, and while I was enjoying and getting good use out of the device, the microphone started having random bouts of noise & static to the point that it was unusable, no matter what distro was installed. after taking the phone partially apart, I narrowed the issue down to physical pressure on the microphone mounted to the daughter board. It seems that almost anything that puts pressure on the microphone can cause or fix this issue, namely whether or not the battery is installed, charged, expanding, contracting, how tightly the three screws holding in the daughter board are tightened, whether the backplate or case is installed, etc. Even putting a piece of duct tape in between the battery and the plastic holding in the daughter board can cause the mic to be unusable.
This issue strikes me as one that could be inadvertently be the cause of many bug reports to distro & modem firmware maintainers, as I haven't seen anyone online having this sort of issue, so hopefully this post can clear this up.

The next steps for dealing with this issue are probably a small note about it in the wiki and dealing with it on a hardware level for future revisions, as I think end users would find the microphone being unusable half the time to be unacceptable for a released smartphone. I should also point out that I can only confirm this issue effects the Pine64 PinePhone (1.2) Hardware Model, so comment below if you can reproduce the issue in older revisions or the pinephone pro.
