My Step-Father's new PinePhone Pro will not turn on, all switches are activated.
Posted by: Adam's Throwaway Account - 03-06-2022, 01:32 AM - Forum: General Discussion of PinePhone Pro - Replies (4)

My Step-Father recently got a new PinePhone Pro, and it won't turn it on. No, he isn't some dumb boomer who didn't think to charge the phone, it hasn't turned on for a few days. All of the switches are set to the "ON" position, and he has charged it enough for it to be at 100%. What is he doing wrong, and what can him or I do to fix this issue?

Mobian : Firefox, toolbar has moved to the bottom.
Posted by: grump_fiddle_reinstall - 03-06-2022, 01:27 AM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - Replies (1)

On my PinePhone Pro running Mobian the Firefox UI has automagically changed itself. The toolbars, Menu, URL field and buttons are all now at the bottom. I can't find the setting in Firefox to change it back. It is driving me nuts.

This is only on the PinePhone Pro Firefox on my PinePhone Firefox seems unchanged. Apart from applying available updates I have made no other changes to the OS and Firefox on this device. The PPP has been undated and rebooted this morning. Still no change.

Has there been a change in the files in userChrome, CSS etc that moves the UI elements around? If I know what has been changed then I have a chance of changing it back. Otherwise I can go and get the files created by Aris on Github to customise the Firefox UI and at least get the toolbar back at the top.

Question Possibly dumb question

My phone completely died, so I put it in maskrom mode so that I could charge it. Now I don't know how to get it out of maskrom mode though, what should I do?

manjaro-phosh did make calls -- now nothing
Posted by: tckosvic - 03-05-2022, 01:52 PM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Hardware - Replies (6)

I had manjaro-phosh img beta 22 working quite well with voice, sms, amd mms.  I am using Consumer Cellular (really att) sim card.  I am running from SD.  After a pacman system update all phone calls, sms, amd mms stopped.  Phone says "call completed" from dial as soon as you finsh keying in a dial call.  Sim card is recognized

I have tried a dozen or so OS/desktop software alternatives to the sd card; no change.  I tried arch and mobian OS.  I took sim card out and put the sim card into plain pinephone (not pro) and it made a call.  That eliminates the sim card as a fault for me.

Is there any system modem software (hardware level for modem) that is below that on the OS SD card that could be a cause?  Perhaps something on the eMMC but that is not used.

Only alternative thing I can think of is a modem hardware failure that happened concurrently with the pacman update.  That'd be pretty unlikely, I think.

Anyone with any ideas?????      thanks,      tom kosvic

rough estimate of expected microSD installation life?
Posted by: andrewp907 - 03-05-2022, 11:32 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (7)

I installed Mobian onto an SD card in the Pinephone Explorer. I have not tried everything I need to try yet but aside from an issue accessing mobile data (fixed by installing all updates) I am not finding obstacles to daily driver use yet.

As a beginner I take the warning very seriously on the wiki not to flash to emmc. Does anyone know when emmc installation will become low-risk enough to recommend? Assuming the SD card is now new, how long can I expect to use the Pinephone as a daily driver before the SD card is worn out and I need to start over with a new one?

Exclamation White screen, no UI
Posted by: Greendrake - 03-05-2022, 06:18 AM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - Replies (1)

After fully upgrading my new Pro with "sudo pacman -Syyu --noconfirm", I installed openssh and attempted to make "sudo" not ask for password. Now, after changing Plasma style, restarting and unlocking the screen, all I see is this:

The icon is "Settings" which I put on the home screen. The screen reacts to device rotation, but otherwise does not react to anything. The "Settings" icon does not react either.

Good news is that ssh works — I can ssh to the phone and control it (change screen brightness for example).

Any ideas how to bring the UI back please?

UPDATE: After power off and power on again, the issue has gone. But what was it? How to prevent it?

Question sudo NOPASSWD not working
Posted by: Greendrake - 03-05-2022, 05:41 AM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - Replies (6)

I have added this line to the sudoers config:

Code:
user ALL=(ALL:ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL

(yes, the username of my user is just "user")

— but it still requires me to enter password. Bloody annoying. What is wrong with that config? Is there something else that needs to be done to enable no-password sudo on Pro?

  Modem Dead?
Posted by: grimlok - 03-04-2022, 09:09 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (5)

Hey all,

I have been using my PinePhone quite consistently now for months now and have been enjoying the experience.  I had to run out and buy a cheap flip phone though out of necessity because it seems my modem may have died.

I have tried resetting the device, even letting it sit off for a while, and messing with the physical switches, but to no avail.  The cellular icon is grayed out and has a slash through it, and the mobile options have completely disappeared from settings.

Has anyone had this issue, and is there a fix, or do I need a new mobo?

grimlok

Question System Updates: "unexpected error"
Posted by: Greendrake - 03-04-2022, 06:55 PM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - Replies (6)

Just received my first Pro, switched off the modem, mic and both cameras, plugged in charger, connected WiFi and attempted to update/upgrade the soft:

Rebooted, tried again — same thing.

Note that the updates' size appears zero. Weird.

How to debug it? Can I try the same via CLI to see some details? Isn't this a common/known issue with new Pros?
