Micro SD card slot problem
#1
Yesterday I noticed that my micro SD card slot does not hold the micro SD card inside. When I insert the card, it does not stay inside and it is ejected outside. Seems like some holding mechanism is broken. What to do now? I do not need SD card now, but what if I wanted to boot another OS?

Last I checked, the small board, (which has the SD card slot), was not available from the Pine Store as a spare part.

Are you sure the spring part has failed?

I have to use a finger nail, (which I do have ones both strong enough and long enough), to push in a Micro SD card
until it clicks in place. (Or reverse, to eject it.)

It must be some hardware failure, because before it was working fine, but a few days ago I had to insert the microSD card deeper into hole to click and now it does not click at all even if it is very deep. Something must be broken there.

Maybe :  a short burst from a  'canned air'  may clean it out ?
possibly something got into the slot... ?

I have found a better way to install or remove micro SD cards from the machine. The very small eye glass screwdriver that comes with or can be purchased separately for Victorinox Swiss army knifes. The screwdriver rests in the corkscrew when not in use. I have launched the SD card across the room many times when using my finger nails.

If your card slot truly is damaged, you can always boot other OS images from USB. You can even use existing microSD cards in the USB slot with an adaptor (slower, but it works),

Have you tried it? I never booted any OS from USB, it is just not supported.

At least with the mainline u-boot installed, USB booting works fine.  I hosed my Manjaro install the second day I had my PBP and had to boot from USB (my SD card hadn't arrived from Amazon yet)

I will try it, but it really never worked for me. I have the latest uboot for direct booting from NVMe.

Ok, sorry, everybody, I was wrong, my uboot really supports booting from USB already, so it is not so bad, I can still run and install another OS Smile
I successfully booted the same Ubungtu OS from left USB.
