Bad EMMC
#1
Just got my new pinebook and played with it but ran out of system memory really quick. Now knowing I would I purchased the 64GB EMMC at the same time. My problem is that I followed all instructions and it says that there is no EMMC detected. The only info I can find on this in the forum is that not all are supported. I purchase mine when I ordered the pinebook. I opened a case about this a week ago and still haven't heard anything. Just wondering if there is a tip or trick I can use to get it up and running.

i have been a pine64 customer for 16 months and during that time have bought a bunch of stuff. about the only tip, trick i can offer [sadly c.s has shown no improvement over that time period] is to send an email to c.s and tllim [owner] his email is around, or leave a message on chat, he hangs out there quite a bit. say you want action in 7 days or you will do a paypal complaint, and then do the complaint with paypal when the time comes. sorry, pine64, you have earned with spades this tip/trick.

We are getting several complains on the 64GB eMMC module issues and currently perform QA check on the 64MB module in stock but not yet discover the issue. Lets assure that PINE64 guarantee that we deliver good eMMC module, once we confirmed the issue, we will provide a solution (either software upgrade, replacement or refund).

This complains as we know only happen on 64GB eMMC module that using Samsung eMMC Flash which is recent production batch. The early one using Hynix seems doesn't have such issue.

I also have problems with the eMMC modules. When flashing an SD card with a Linux image for eMMC, I get the error 'no eMMC found'.
But when flashing Android 6.0 for eMMC, Android got installed to eMMC without a problem.

The current 64GB eMMC module using SanDisk eMMC 5.1, which create compatibility issue on current Linux build. This issue has been identify by Armbian community and solution been created.

So what is the solution? I've been waiting since Sept 12 to receive a replacement and there has been no communication about my replacement or a solution until now.

I have same problem. Buy emmc 64gb with my pinebook and doesnt recognized by installer.

With 16 gb installed by default I dont have any problem.

How i can fix it?

If is a hardware problem, where I could get a replacement?

I'm running off the sandisk 64GB module with a modified kernel and uboot. It's not yet running at the highest interface speed but the overall performance is ok (upto about 50MB/s write and 80MB/s read). More info on the armbian forums: https://forum.armbian.com/index.php?/top...l-to-emmc/

I hope to submit patches to armbian as soon as I get some free time, but in the meanwhile I put the kernel and uboot binaries that I'm using on filebin:
https://filebin.ca/3dBZ0qmNivMa/Image-3.10.107-pine64
https://filebin.ca/3dBng1sFqg02/linux-u-..._arm64.zip

You would need to have a bootable SD card that you would put the kernel image onto so that you can mount the emmc. Then you can install the new uboot onto the mounted emmc and copy over the new kernel to get a working system.
The uboot zip has the binary and a very simple script to install it. Make sure you check the script uses the correct device to write to for your setup.

Are you talking about to create my own installer with this patch? ;(
Will be patched in the next installer release?
