How to power off Android on Pine64
#1
Hi,

Apologies for asking a low level question, but I can't find any way to stop Android on the Pine 64 other than just killing the power.

All 'normal' android devices have a power button - and there seems to be no way to do a clean power off without one - the problem occurs in many android forums from users with phones/tablets with broken power buttons.

Is there any obvious way to do this without soldering a power button onto the board or finding some solution via rooting the installation?

John.

I think I found my own answer - the best solution is adding the power button - the Pine 64 board has circuitry/mounting holes for two buttons - power and reset (might be good to use different colours) - may as well solder both at the same time.

You are correct.

... also be advised that a short 'click' on the power button puts the unit to sleep , for which atm there is no recovery except reset or power pull. Always use a long push -- click the power button and 'hold' it until the power-off dialogue appears.

Will look. Maybe we can fix that.

Yes, the on off button on the openhour IR controller works also... to power off, but not to power on.

Although, on the "Android 5.1.1 Image (HDMI Video Output) Release 20160711", my pine64+ 1G does come out of standby in response to both the power button being pressed, and a key on the keyboard being pressed. I'll upload the videos tonight and link them in tomorrow.

I have the power button now, but before I put it on I had found an app called "Power Off" which did the trick. It does require root though.

So here are two videos which show that the pine64+ 1GB can wake up from a short press sleep/standby on android with either a press to the bower button (just like with your typical tablet) or with a press to a key on the keyboard (which also supports TL Lim's comment on this in another thread). I'll re-iterate that this is with the "Android 5.1.1 Image (HDMI Video Output) Release 20160711" 8GB DD image, and was the non-rooted version IIRC.

Also, although the power button wakes my board up almost every time, there was one occasion when it would NOT wake up form sleep (and my USB power meter readings didn't change at all, indicating it was not responding at all). So it is not 100%.. more like 99% reliable for me so far Wink

My AirMouse doesn't have a PowerOn/Off button, thus after some digging in PlayStore, I settled down on a small app called "Assistive Touch".

Basically it emulates a floating button on screen with configuration shortcuts. If you had used iOS, it looks very familiar.
The shortcut menu it triggered can have Power option, where it simulates the Power Button action.

Many similar apps requires ROOT, this one doesn't.
