(ARCHIVED) Debian Jessie Images (3.10.102 BSP Kernel) New Release

The Images are pretty much what people want. The Debian Mate And XFCE images are the latest (and currently stable) I am have another set that will be released upon receipt of the Mali driver for the pine.

Pine64.pro is a work in progress as things are a bit busy in my personal life from time to time.

As for the multiarch (32 and 64bit) try sudo dpkg --add-architecture armhf

Lenny, 

When Mali support is released will we need to reimage our Pine's to get the new functionality or do you envision some kind of data in place upgrade? I hope the latter and understand that that might not be easy to implement.

it will not be necessary to re-image the pine to the latest debian images. I will do a write up (cut and paste) on how to install the Mali plus some additions (bluetooth, firmware additions, and latest jessie backport updates)

hi lenny, sorry if this has been discussed before, I pulled your image down (works great, thanks!) and I then tried to update it with apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, and I got a gazillion erros about not being able to get to the repositories basically ( I can post the exact error later if you need them)...

... I'm just wondering what is the proper way to update the system after the image is resized across the card and things are running?

try this as I have added a bit mroe to the new images awaiting the 3d inclusion (which I may be releasing end of next week).

Hello. I got my Pine finally but without ABS Case .
At start I tried images suggested by PINE but no luck. They stuck at the boot after couple of minutes.
Then I tried Jessie's image. MARVELOUS. Fast and accurate.
I managed to log in in less than minute. My USB HUB work great with this image.
I have couple of Q's here:
1. I just can't find Jessie's explanation, something about expanding space on Sd card or similar. Looks like his first post is modified since my last log in here. Is this still valid operation to be done after booting up image or it is already automated ?
2. Regarding Iceweasel as a primary browser. It crashes (close) twice since I ran image, Is it due to lack of memory (at this moment I am using Maxell 8GB card, just for testing) or it is a known bug ?
3. Received push button, should be soldered on top of board, where it says POWER (next to RESET) or should I make melting of closed holes and put through board connectors and solder them from bottom side ? I must mention that these holes are already soldered.

I am fully supporting Jessie and his work.

Now I am going to test Android images but I think I will stuck at the same place as before with other images

hi lenny, I'm wondering about the delay on bootup (several minutes) seems like its waiting on the network (even if the network is there) which makes the boot-up take a long time... what is the way to shorten that delay, if we can?

PS longsleep tells us that the framebuffer console does not support cursor... rats. How can we set a cursor in the virtual consoles F1-F6 for use with vim or nano ? I set PS1 to get a colored block cursor in the console,... but it does not translate into vim nor into nano. Any ideas ?

The cursor is not there because ARM SoC usually dont have hardware character generators to draw a cursor. Some fb drivers have a sofrware cursors option but those usually have issues like drawing artifacts or lag since the synchronization is difficult....

hi xalius, yeah I was thinking about software cursor options for work-around... wondering if they can be configured in the terminal or in a program like screen.  I did try screen this morning, and no go. I'm going to have to go back and try my one of my PIs again, but I think their SoC has no problem with the cursor, or, they invented a software version-- I'll get back to you.

I have asked on the Raspberry PI forum whether the SoC provides their fbcon cursor , or whether it is a kernel soft compile option , like the CONFIG_FB_SOFT_CURSOR=y option for the PineA64 kernel.

One way or the other we need to get the cursor in the fbcon (F1 - F6) or there will be unhappy campers in the PineA64 gnu+linux community; there are just too many people that use them !

@xalius, What are the synchronization problems you were speaking about ?
