@as400 Thank you a lot! This info about the needed modules is exactly what I was looking for! Next time I try installing it I will include these modules and see if I can get the display to turn on.

Is this supposed to already work in a console installation or will it only work with Xorg running?

Since kernel 5.10.4 made it recently into Debian unstable I am going to give it a try and see if adding the mentioned modules to initramfs helps to bring up the display.
