There are tons of old notebooks displays lying around and you can get an LVDS-DVI/VGA adapter for as few money as the Pine does cost (9€ at germany currently). So you can basically get 15"-17"LCD with resolutions like 1280x800, 1440x900 or event better. Toolks like cordova/phonegap, ionic would allow lot of people knowing web development doing awesome stuff with that: infotainment display, interactive picture frames ...
On linux you need the whole X11 stack + classic web browser to make a nice Web-based app. On android you have a Webview - mostly with decent performance and hardware acceleration.
