Supported 4:3 and 16:10 resolutions over HDMI on Android - karlitos - 03-04-2016 Hello, I would like to know if the Pine64 will support the standart 4:3 and 16:10 resolution modes (1024y768, 1280x800, 1440x900 ...) running Android. At the moment there is almost no platform supporting resolutions beside 16:9 which would allow Android development. Which is very missfortunate, because it will be great to use stripped, resource saving android together with hardware accelerated WebView to create hybrid applications with tools like cordova/phonegap .... The display hardware able to support other format and I will ask the Android software engineer to explore after we releaes the OTA build. RE: Supported 4:3 and 16:10 resolutions over HDMI on Android - karlitos - 03-04-2016 I think that would be really great if Pine64 could support multiple resolutions on Android. Because it would be one of the few, when not the only one device which could do that. There are tons of old notebooks displays lying around and you can get an LVDS-DVI/VGA adapter for as few money as the Pine does cost (9€ at germany currently). So you can basically get 15"-17"LCD with resolutions like 1280x800, 1440x900 or event better. Toolks like cordova/phonegap, ionic would allow lot of people knowing web development doing awesome stuff with that: infotainment display, interactive picture frames ... On linux you need the whole X11 stack + classic web browser to make a nice Web-based app. On android you have a Webview - mostly with decent performance and hardware acceleration. People should know what to expect from the Android support. I already pre-ordered the Pin64 and I also bought some other boards only to realize, that 99% of them are not able to provide any 4:3 or 16:10 resolutions under Android and that the support for them will not be ever added. At least Odroid should supports 1280x800 and some lower S(VGA) modes and Pcduino should also support some more resolution modes. I know that adding broader support for 4:3/16:10 resolutions modes over HDMI will nit be easy, since it will involve adapting or developing of the display drivers. But I still hope that Pine will make difference, at least since it removed the initially planned support for LVDS. But in any case let us know how is the status. There is no initial plan for support LVDS. On the 4:3 resolution, it is already on the to-do list. Due to 4:3 is not prefer format on HDMI output, there may be other issue to consider such as whether the HDMI-VGA adapter able to sync properly. |
