Since switching to the Kernel Update Channel, I have noticed some subtle but important improvements:
- The wifi is still off when the phone wakes up, but it can be switched on much quicker. In the past, I had to switch the wifi slider off and on again and hope for the best, now I only have to tap on my router entry.
- The battery is only charged to about 90%. I heard this is deliberate in order to protect it.
- Battery life is getting quite close to an Android experience. Taking my phone off the charger and using it for 5-10 minutes every hour still leaves me with about 15% after 12 hours. This means I would be able to use the phone all day!
I have not tested calls and sms, simply because my main SIM card is in my other phone. I have a spare one in my Pinephione, but rarely use it. (For users in the UK: I decided to use 1p mobile which is expensive on data but cheap on calls and texts. The best thing about it is that it is a true PAYG, i.e. you only need to top up once every 120 days and then your remaining credit is rolled over).
The only issue that is holding me back from fully switching to the Pinephone on UT is the lack of a usable e-mail client. I have several accounts to check regularly, so Webmail is no good. And Dekko is too buggy to use.
I also find the YouTube developer sessions helpful. The latest can be found here:

Enjoy!
