That would depend on the bandwidth.  Anyway, it should be backwards compatible.

If you're talking about a just a PREEMPT 1000Hz kernel it will be fine and should give an improvement for low-latency tasks.

However, prepackaged distro kernels might not be compatible with the PBP, so you might have to spend a few hours compiling one yourself.

I've tried some of the alternative scheduler patches (MuQSS, BMQ), and it seems those are more designed for desktops with plenty of CPU power, so sticking with the default CFS is a good idea.

Has anyone tested Reaper + JACK2 MIDI yet? When I tried that last it was dropping lots of notes, though I probably just configured things wrong.

I installed Ardour, CALF Studio plugins, and Noise repellant on my Pinebook Pro running KDE Manjaro. I am very impressed with the Manjaro store. It set everything up and built all dependencies for me. I did a test session getting ready for a gig I have coming up. I was able to get the buffer set to 256 with 3 periods and avoid xruns. I am using a Scarlett 18i20 interface and aClarette Octopre connected via ADAT and BNC Wordclock.  I successfully wrote 18 tracks to disk for 1 hour without errors. That being said, I've found out that if I click "analyze exported audio" when I do an export I get crashes, but that's an Ardour question. Anywho, I'm super impressed and very pleased. It's such a sweet professional look to record onto this machine. With my nvme, I'll have plenty of room. I do feel like I want to get a cooling mat. Throttling could kill a recording session.
