Rock64 v3 with Real Time Clock (RTC), how to verify?
Posted by: Enig123 - 05-31-2020, 02:03 AM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCK64 - Replies (1)

After over 2 months' voyage, my Rock64 v3 finally was delivered. It is known to have a RTC (Real Time Clock) module that v2 does not have.

My question is, how can I verify RTC module is there working?

BTW, anyone can shed some light on what exactly the RTC module means for an OS?

My dmesg message is as follow (running OpenBSD 6.7):

OpenBSD 6.7 (GENERIC.MP) #1: Sat May 16 15:59:24 MDT 2020

What is the most polished OS for pinephone?
Posted by: coolguy129 - 05-30-2020, 02:49 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PineTime - Replies (2)

I have recently been looming at buying a pinephone and pinebook and am now looking at the pinetime. However, I was wondering if there was an OS for pinetime with a decent UI? What would be the most polished one? Thanks in advance, Coolguy129.

Moderator edit: Moving to Pinephone forum, (from PineTime forum).\

Edit: Sorry, didn't make it clear that I was looking for an OS for pinetime.

New PBP - Wifi Disabled on First Boot
Posted by: cephalien - 05-30-2020, 12:37 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

Hi All!

First post, just got my new Pinebook Pro. Initial impressions are great but I ran into one small snag.

My wifi was disabled via hardware when I first powered on the machine, and I had to go googling. If this has happened to anyone else, hit the Pine Key + F11 and look for the numlock light to flash twice. Then reboot.

Wifi was fine after that, but there's no indication in the wireless settings - the adapter is just gone because it's disabled from HW.

Bug open wifi works and secure wifi does not

Hey guys

Received my pinebook a few days ago and it's a great device. Wifi was working as expected (after super +f11 fix).

I started messing around seeing how well it could multitask aaand ended up with a frozen screen. I power cycled and all seemed fine, until I couldn't sign into the wifi I was just on.

I can see available networks and attempt to sign in but it fails. But if I go into my router and remove the password I can sign in. Weird!

Any thoughts?

  8 GB RAM option?
Posted by: hvdkooij - 05-30-2020, 07:38 AM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (12)

Hi,

Now that the Raspberry PI has surprised us with a 8 GB RAm version it makes me wonder of there is any work in progress towards a newer board with a 8GB RAm option.

I understand this is not somethin you can simply do on the existing board but perhaps a newer board in the future to replace the on in the Pinebook Pro might be an option.

Regards, Hugo.

Boot problems with new 128GB eMMC module
Posted by: Kareema - 05-30-2020, 07:15 AM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (1)

Boot problems with new 128GB eMMC module

Just got a new 128GB eMMC module from Pine64 and replaced the 64GB module in my PBP. Now I'm getting the following errors when booting from an old 32 GB microSDHC card: "blk_update_request: I/O error, dev mmcblk1, sector..." and bus speed changes "mmc_host mmc1: Bus speed (slot 0)...". For more details, I've attached a screenshot.

Changing back to the old 64GB eMMC module, I can boot from eMMC and SD card again. The 128GB eMMC module can be mounted on another computer without problems using the USB adatper.

Any ideas, what could be causing those problems or how I should proceed? Or am I doing something wrong here... maybe just a beginner's problem... Confused

Hi,

Where do OS Images come from ?

How are they made? Do they come from other images (OpenSuse TW) with some tweaks or are they build from scratch?

...

Can I try that myself?
Where would I even start?

Chances of alternate Pinephone chassis or 3D models?
Posted by: breakstop - 05-29-2020, 11:05 PM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (7)

I saw this post on Twitter and thought this design looked really cool. Since a lot of the replacement parts for the Pinehpone are available on the store, are the chassis parts available? And is there any chance of there being alternate versions, say for example a clear version? If not, are there (or are there going to be) 3D models of the Pinephone CE chassis released so that people can 3D print their own? I saw that there is a 3D model available for the back cover, I'd really love to get a clear chassis and clear back cover for the old clear console nostalgia lol.

Thanks

  Latest Distro Compare on PBP
Posted by: oxoocoffee - 05-29-2020, 09:41 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - No Replies

I was wondering if anyone did test various supported distros (latest) on PBP and how they compare against each other? Battery, IO speed, UI responsiveness, WiFi speeds, memory usage, etc

I am still waiting on my machine to arrive. Are there any good benchmarks packages could be used to test and compare?
