Modem network registration fails

Hi,
I've been messing around with my pinephone BH for a few months now and cannot get cellular network to work.
I have tested mobian, ubports, pmos and sailfish and all can recognize the sim card (tried two different carriers) and unlock it (also tried with no PIN) but they cannot register to the network.
I have also tried to debug with modem manager, and it can indeed find the various carriers' networks, just cannot register.
Does anyone have any idea regarding what the problem could be ?
Thanks in advance

Android on PinePhone?

Hi,
Why there is no Android subforum under Pine Phone software?
Not enough interest?
From my point of view it would be useful to have a running image for few reasons.
- users that are android app dependent can run those apps, even in dual boot scenario its good to have android installed in case of ocassional need for it.
- until anbox matures, people could actually use pinephone as daily driver on android, rather then having it as secondary device to play with (daily use the hardware you purchased, and reboot to linux for play
I think I saw a mention of android image booting on pinephone somewhere, doesnt it deserve its own section under OS?
if there is android for pine tablet, why not for pine phone?
and just a small disclaimer. Android is free and open source software. I am not talking about android google bundle. My main driver is LineageOS device without any traces of google software or microg services, and its running perfectly fine. 90% of applications do not need google to run.
thoughts?
thanks

The RTL-SDR and the Pinebook Pro

Since there is discussion of including an RTL-SDR module option in the PineTab, I've had some renewed excitement over the possibilities of doing SDR stuff on Pine devices. However, I still can't seem to get my RTL-SDR dongle to work on my Pinebook Pro. It works fine on my other computers, and I have little reason to believe that it's not receiving enough power, but even so, all I can ever get it to do is produce what appears to be a repeating loop of the first few samples it collects whenever I try to use it.
Is this a fluke that's down to some issue with my specific units (either the SDR or the Pinebook Pro), or have others had this problem as well? I'm doing my best to debug it, but the answer is still eluding me.
How about you? Have you tried using an RTL-SDR on the Pinebook Pro (or the regular Pinebook, for that matter)? How'd it go?

Hey guys,
when I try to play youtube videos in Firefox, I get the following message:
====================
The address wasn't understood
Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (rtsp) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context.
You might need to install other software to open this address.
====================
Is there an easy quick fix for this?
Best,
Thomas

Hello,
my brand new PinePhone don't start. I removed the battery tab from battery and battery connector, charged the phone a hole night and tried to fire up the device pressing the lower button a few seconds, but nothing happened. What's the problem?

Testing Crust Deep-sleep

[edit] Starting Devel OS image build 47 crust is enabled by default AND the phone is capable of accepting phone calls, data events AND SMS.
The instructions below are therefore no longer required.
Testing and feedback for this feature is much important since the devs would very much like to include it into their day-one patch for when UBports CE PinePhones arrive in the hands of their new owners.
Pre-requisites:
1) You need to be on OTA build 31 (or newer) OTA 33 or newer
2) You'll need to have a rw filesys for this and you'll want SSH enabled:
Code: sudo mount -o rw,remount /
sudo umount /etc/init/ssh.override
sudo rm /etc/init/ssh.override
sudo start ssh
3) run the following:
Code: sudo ubports-qa install xenial_-_edge_-_crust
4) edit 3001 instead of 2001 in:
Code: /etc/apt/preferences.d/ubports-xenial_-_edge_-_crust.pref
5) Run update and power down:
Code: sudo ubports-qa update
6) boot back up and see if Crust is enabled
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Known issues:
* Sometimes the PinePhone doesn't wake up on modem events (SMS or phone call)
* The modem frequently disconnects (issue with kernel 5.6) after initial suspend [edit] Fixed in May 28 OTA
* LED indication light (charging, messages, etc.,) sometimes doesn't work in suspend
Checking if PinePhone is in Crust deep-sleep:
* ping the phone's IP from terminal - if it doesn't respond after 30s then crust works

SMS after dead battery

Have been playing with phosh on my phone for a bit now.
I noticed that when the phone runs out of battery and I do not shut it down the modem appears to lock itself as far as sms.
After plugging in the charger and turning the phone back on I am unable to receive sms messages in chatty. They are queuing up on the modem. Rebooting the phone does not fix the issue. Accessing the modem, running the queue check (AT+CMGD=?) and exiting the modem, then rebooting also does not fix the issue. Waiting for a message or two to queue up, deleting them entirely or only one (EG: AT+CMGD=0) and rebooting allows chatty to receive the sms messages again. Obviously this is quite tedious to test with having to wait for the battery to drain fully. Would anyone have a lead on how the modem might be locked if not properly shutdown and another way to try and reset it?
