  Can't connect to wifi
Posted by: malachipclover - 06-04-2020, 09:24 AM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

Hello, I just received my Pinebook Pro last night. I ran the initial setup and connected to wifi just fine. Then I updated and rebooted and I haven't been able to connect to wifi since. It seems to stall out at "Setting network address". I have tried deleting the configuration and starting over from scratch, manually entering in the MAC address that was stored in the router in case there was a mismatch somewhere, specifically changing the BSSID to both 2.4 and 5 GHz connections, and restarting the NetworkManager service as well as many reboots sprinkled in throughout and nothing seems to change. This is on the stock Manjaro out of the box, I haven't changed anything other than update.

Any help is appreciated.

  USB-C charging specifications
Posted by: zxorg - 06-04-2020, 09:20 AM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (11)

If I buy the PineBook Pro, would like to be able to charge it over USB-C, so I can use the same charger I use to charge my smartphone. So what are the charging specs? Is it compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge 5V/9V/12V? Is compatible with USB Power Delivery? In case I don’t have direct access to wall charger, would like to be able to use power banks, the same I use for android and iPad without having to charge with a barrel connector.

Whats the "best" camera modeule for the Rockpi?
Posted by: mindwave - 06-04-2020, 09:14 AM - Forum: Rock64 Hardware and Accessories - No Replies

and why?

I ask because as I was researching a new cellphone the otherday I was running into phones with up to 5 ca,eras, one of which was a 64MP sensor

Now i realize that a direct comparison to film cameras and glass elements is tough, but how does on of the most widely known SBCs get front page news because of a 12MP sensor available?

I know theres a LOT i dont know (for example I was really taken aback at why "cell phones" could sell so cheap with windows, as well as 7" tablets, but the CD still runs $150+

so anyone with knowledge id love to hear it

  Pinebook Pro DOA?
Posted by: zamansky - 06-04-2020, 06:27 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (4)

I just got my Pinebook Pro.

Plugged it in - the red light next to the charger went on for a while, then off.

Tried to press the power button - short press - nothing. Long press, nothing.

Am I missing something silly or is it DOA?

Help!!
Thanks
Mike

Question How far are we from installing Linux witout extra patches?
Posted by: dumetrulo - 06-04-2020, 03:49 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

A few days ago Linux kernel 5.7 was released. If I understand correctly, it should now be possible to install a vanilla ARM-based Linux distro with kernel 5.7, and have (almost) everything working. However, patches are still needed for:

  • external display
  • hardware video codec
  • proper audio (mixers for all devices, as well as separation of speakers and headphones)
  • suspend/resume (custom U-boot version)
Edit: Am I missing anything else, such as WiFi firmware?

Can we make a list of where to get the patches and other resources that are required for a proper performant installation?

Can we also try and get estimates as to when the missing bits will be upstreamed?

Lastly, I imagine one could use @danielt's  Debian installer to set up a base system, pull the necessary patches from somewhere, then compile a new kernel that has all the missing bits. Has anyone tried this already, and could provide a script, or more or less some step-by-step instructions?

  Vnc Viewer
Posted by: FeMike - 06-04-2020, 02:42 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (5)

So I recently bought a cheap SBC to play around with and want to run it headless but with the full desktop image on it. I'm having a hard time finding a vnc viewer for the PineBookPro. I found a package labled gtk-vnc in synaptic, but after installing and trying to get it to work I finally gave up. What do you guys use when wanting to vnc into another device? When I search online for vnc viewers I can find them for everything else including raspberry pi, but not for our pb64's. Thank you.

Minimum requirements for ROCK64 Android install?
Posted by: eugenev13 - 06-04-2020, 02:23 AM - Forum: Android on Rock64 - No Replies

I would like to install Android (at least 7.1.2, not Android-TV) on ROCK64.

What would be the minimum RAM size and SD card size requirements for doing this?
Can I get by with 1GB RAM version of ROCK64 and 8GB SD card?

The setup can and need be quite minimalist, as I will only need to run a handful of very simple apps. Google Play Store is not required for my use case.

For reference - When I ran these apps on an Android 5.1.1 emulator set to 1GB RAM, I had over 325 MB of free RAM; and only 26% of 8 GB storage was used.
            - Similarly, these same apps ran fine on an Android 7.1.1 and Android 10 Virtual Devices in Android Studio, both set to 1 GB RAM, 8 GB storage.

Unresponsive trackpad - brand new PBP
Posted by: oxoocoffee - 06-03-2020, 10:41 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (2)

I received my PBP today. After unpacking it I plugged in to power and left it alone to fully charge before first boot. It took 4-5 hr? For red led to turnoff. Next I powered the machine on and finished initial manjaro setup. After I got to logon screen I noticed that my trackpad is to totally not responsive. I can’t move cursor not any clicks do not produce anything. I did try toggle Fn-F7 but that did not do anything.
I did try to soft and hard reboot and no change.

Any one having this issue? Anyway to resolve this? Or should I consider it defective unit?

Cheers

Focal on Bionic Using Chroot - Chromium / Snapd Issues
Posted by: charlespine - 06-03-2020, 06:47 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - No Replies

I used the debootstrap advice here:

https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?...2#pid66592

Instead, I installed Focal, omitted the CP ld-linux-armhf.so.3 line, and was able to use it. However, I get stuck installing Chromium. It's trying to install it using Snap and there are connectivity issues and accessing localhost.

Any recommendations?
