Is bluetooth lag for A/V playback due to SD card?
Posted by: Cree - 08-02-2020, 11:16 AM - Forum: UBPorts on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Ive noticed when playing music and videos over bluetooth from my pinephone, the connection gets a bit choppy. Im sure the PP's processor, wifi and bluetooth are fully capable, so i was wondering if it might be caused by the OS and all programs being mounted on the SD card thereby adding another r/w process in the middle of buffering? If so, i suppose an SD card with a higher transfer rate might alleviate this issue, but so too would using the eMMC for the OS, although my earliest experience led me away from that.

Freepascal FPC3.20 and Lazarus IDE on Manjaro KDE
Posted by: dieselnutjob - 08-02-2020, 06:57 AM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Tutorials - No Replies

I have written up how I did it here

https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php?title=...on_Manjaro

if anyone finds a problem with the instructions please reply.

Also, I have done some work on getting Wolfgang Erhhardt (RIP) maths and crypto libraries working on freepascal on 64 bit ARM.

Read about it here

https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/ind...71924.html

His code provides some very useful libraries including RSA, AES and SHA algorithms.

Question Why two power ports on a budget laptop??
Posted by: gurk - 08-01-2020, 09:28 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (58)

First of all, I really like the PB Pro and I love what you're doing for the open source community.

However, I can't help but wonder why you included two charging ports on the Pinebook pro. The USB-C port is in the middle of the connector lineup, meaning that powering it over USB-C is going to nearly prevent you from using that USB port right behind it. And, in the regular power spot there isn't USB-C, but an ugly barrel jack. Even worse, both ports are nearly right next to each other...

It doesn't make a lot of sense. Why waste money to increase the number of power ports, and put them right next to each other, when you could save money and make a better-looking product just by leaving it out?

If you want to be capitalists, just charge $5 extra to take out the barrel jack, and I would gladly pay.

  Pinebook Pro Broken Hinge
Posted by: uncmonky - 08-01-2020, 07:11 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (1)

Hello.
I had an accident with my Pinebook Pro and now I have a couple of broken hinges. Any way I can get replacement parts. Looks like the hinges broke off some plastic bracket inside.

Please advise.

Thank you
David

factory test shows fails and unreliable modem
Posted by: PanzerPenguin - 08-01-2020, 03:26 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (3)

Hey PINE64 community, maybe someone can help me with the following;

I tried the PostmarketOS factory test img (v0.55.0) on my UBports community edition and got the following results in the automatic test;

EG25 either fails or shows No Sim (With working Sim under UBports)
ANX7688 shows: No CC Fix.
RTL8723CS also often fails.

What should I do next with this? Are there fixes I can apply or are these hardware faults?

  best options for email clients
Posted by: arturo2bodegas - 08-01-2020, 09:52 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (6)

geary isn't playing nice. not sure is the keyring problem is related, but I got the app to open and scale ok, but when I try to add a gmail account, it says that there's no connection. has anyone gotten email figured out? The only workaround that I've come up with is trying to make a webapp with the build-in browser (epiphany), or use firefox.

what are you guys doing for email?

anyone notice that scale-to-fit works on some apps, but not others?
Posted by: arturo2bodegas - 08-01-2020, 09:09 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (1)

I'm wondering why this is. My suspicion is that it's tied to whether or not the app is looking for wayland vs x, but I don't know. any ideas or help?

source code for Truecrypt? or for 32 bit ARM?
Posted by: dieselnutjob - 08-01-2020, 06:18 AM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (12)

I was quite surprised to find Truecrypt available on the Pinebook Pro Manjaro build, and pleased because I still use it on Windows and Intel Linux.

I would also like to use it on the mrFixIt debian build with 32 bit ARM userland.

Anyone know if it's available?  or where I can get the source code from?  I suppose as it's in the Manjaro build the source code must be available.

  Pine/ARM mATX motherboard product?
Posted by: ashleymills - 08-01-2020, 02:17 AM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

Wouldn't it be great if there were a component based market for custom PC building based around ARM?

Perhaps Pine64 could help this goal by releasing a n mATX motherboard with RAM slots, multiple SATA ports, etc

Some ARM based motherboards do exist but they all have integrated SOCs. I don't know how we can get to the point where there is a socket standard for the chips and you can just buy something to suit your budget and slot it into the motherboard.

I guess if the socket idea is too far, would be good to see Pine64 develop a multi-core power computing integrated motherboard that could work as a desktop replacement.

Would be interested to hear people's thoughts around this idea

Ashley

  Curious about privacy

Hello all, my husband mentioned this phone as an alternative to Android.  I am curious as to the root/adminstration capabilities as well as encryption.  I read the information on the hardware specs, but didn't see anything about the software abilities.  Any links to said information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
