  Manjaro multilib or 32 bit ARM binaries?
Posted by: dieselnutjob - 07-25-2020, 04:38 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (4)

Is there a way to get multilib working on Manjaro?
I tried the mrfixit Debian build on an SD card and that runs 32 bit ARM binary compiled for Raspbian straight out of the box.
Would it possible to do the same wit Manjaro?

I would like to be able to compile and run Raspbian binaries on my Pinebook Pro using Manjaro.

  how do I know which linux OS I can install on a pinetab
Posted by: dln949 - 07-25-2020, 02:52 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PineTab - Replies (20)

I am currently learning about the pine tab.

Is it restricted to running only Ubuntu Touch?

Were I to purchase one, how would I know which linux distributions I could install on it?  And, how would I learn how to install each one?

I'm very confused on these questions.  I read a lot that the pint tab will run linux distributions, but I have not seen anyone describe how to do that.

  long term plan for pine phone?
Posted by: dln949 - 07-25-2020, 02:46 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (18)

I am very  new to this.

I understand that something called "community editions" have been made available.  My understanding is that a community edition means the phone is still not stable or fully developed, it is intended for technically-interested users.

Does Pine64 intend to produce a stable pine phone intended for the ordinary public?  And, do they plan to do that long term?

I can't take the time to play with something like a community edition, so I would like to wait for the stable or final version.  But, I don't want to get that if it isn't going to be a long term project by Pine64 (or someone) who will be around to provide support, maintenance, and development.

  An unofficial Fedora Installer for Pinebook Pro

I made an installer script for Fedora on Pinebook Pro. For now I am using Manjaro kernel. I have done a lot of testing, but comment, issues and PRs are welcome.

  Pinephone + AOSP Mental Model
Posted by: thunderbiscuit - 07-25-2020, 06:45 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Hello everyone.

Trying to wrap my head around the Android Open Source Project and the pieces that come together to make it work on specific devices. The image attached is my current mental model of how Android can be built. With this thread I am looking to:

1. refine/restructure the mental model it if it needs it, and

2. understand better if "vendor blobs" are the only thing one needs to make AOSP work on any given device or if more is needed.

Eventually the bigger picture question I have is whether one could build "vanilla" AOSP from source and use it on a Pinephone or whether other pieces are still missing in that architecture to make it work that I have not understood/accounted for.

Thank you!
(mmmm... I can't upload images from my machine on a post?)
Ok here's a link I guess: https://ibb.co/CPF0MHt

  Weird magnetometer values
Posted by: devrtz - 07-25-2020, 04:30 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (9)

While reading the data from the magnetometer I have noticed weird/inconsistent values between a BH edition and CE edition.

Weird: Laying the phone on a table and turning it 360 degrees I would've expected the reported values to be in an interval [-MAX, MAX]
But as it turns out the values never cross 0.
I assume I'm picking up magnetic fields induced by flowing currents inside the pinephone itself?

Inconsistent: Doing the same kind of measurements in the same environment (same room, same position on the table) I get different readings for the v1.1 and the v1.2 phones.
I assume changes in the PCB could be the reason for this discrepancy.

Does anyone have an idea of what might be going wrong here?

See this issue.
If some of you could provide some readouts from the script I linked in the gitlab issue I would be much obliged :)

Background: I thought about making a compass app, but for that I would need to be able to find the north/south pole

  multi-touch limits?
Posted by: Rich_Morin - 07-25-2020, 01:58 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (2)

tl;dr - what are the limits on multi-touch for the PinePhone?

I'm interested in supporting braille input on a PinePhone. Ideally, the user should be able to activate every possible dot in the braille cell. For six-dot braille, this would use three fingers on each hand; eight-dot braille would use four fingers on each hand. So, how many simultaneous locations can the PinePhone support?

Question Main Website News Posts - Font really light-grey on white
Posted by: JayT - 07-24-2020, 09:43 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Hi,

I wasn't sure the best place to post this, but I wanted to mention that I'm having issues with eye-strain reading through the main news posts, like this one:
https://www.pine64.org/2020/07/24/all-ab...ab-update/

It's a really light-grey font that is used, on a white background. The contrast ratio seems really poor.

Jumping into the Firefox inspector, I'm seeing color is #7a7a7a; - coming from the global.css file

Code:
.elementor-widget-text-editor {
  color:#7a7a7a;
  font-family:"Roboto", Sans-serif;
  font-weight:400;
}

My recommendation would be to use competely black, #111 - I tried adjusting this in Firefox and found it much easier to read.

I'm happy to help out with updating the CSS if there's any way I can assist?

Regards, Jay T
