Watch out for your system clock , when upgrading.
Posted by: bingo600 - 08-19-2020, 12:27 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Watch out for your system clock , when upgrading.
Somehow (on my PP CE edition) it FSCK's up and TimeWarps to year 2115 , happpend 3 times now.

If the sysclock is that much wrong , then the repos used has expired , and gives an error.

*** Update fails

root@mobian:~# apt update
Get:1 http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye InRelease [116 kB]
Hit:2 http://repo.mobian-project.org mobian InRelease

*** Check clock = TimeWarp

*** Update works
root@mobian:~# apt update

Why doesn't the OS do a hwclock -s , during boot ??

/Bingo

Well a dist-upgrade , just installed this one :
Get:1 http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye/main arm64 systemd-timesyncd arm64 246.1-1 [124 kB]

Will that solve the TimeWarp ? , or just keep the clock sync'ed like NTP ?

**** Bonus Q: ****

root@mobian:~# apt upgrade

The following packages have been kept back:
mobian-base mobian-phosh-base mobian-phosh-games mobian-phosh-phone

1:

I have 4 packages held back:
mobian-base mobian-phosh-base mobian-phosh-games mobian-phosh-phone

Should i install these ??

I'm on latest update/upgrade as of 2020-08-19
root@mobian:~# uname -a
Linux mobian 5.7-pinephone #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Aug 6 15:47:23 UTC 2020 aarch64 GNU/Linux

2:
How do i install them , if needed ?

3: Are there any specific order to install them ??

TIA

  Problems with my RockPro64
Posted by: tuxd3v - 08-19-2020, 11:47 AM - Forum: Linux on RockPro64 - No Replies

Hello guys,
I noticed yesterday night, that my RockPRo64 was not running..

I discovered that the board was very high temperature around the red ellipse in the picture bellow..
https://paste.pics/7e66971884c4b53ee63160a9dc4c9995

it extended till the lcd header connectors close to the ellipse, it was so high that I made a burn in my finger..
I disconnected the power supply from the board..
I already checked power supply voltage seems ok, but again without load( 12.3volts )..

Those components were heating up maybe because there are a short circuit somewhere in the board.. after that ellipse maybe..

I wanted to know what reference those component's are in the Datasheet diagram, so that I can look at them and see what I can do.

Can Anyone help me?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Best Regards
tux

  Syncwire charger
Posted by: dieselnutjob - 08-19-2020, 11:09 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

I bought one of these on Amazon
https://www.syncwire.com/collections/wal...ll-charger

it has two output ports, each of which can deliver 3 amps.

and also this H barrel cable
https://store.pine64.org/product/2-meter...wer-cable/

The reasons that I bought this:-

Despite being an ISO PBP they sent me a US charger with it.
The Syncwire one comes with USA, UK and Euro pins.
As it has two ports I can charge a phone and the PBP from one device and one power socket which is useful for travelling.  The PBP is basically becoming my default travel laptop due to it's slimness and light weight.
It's also useful for powering a Raspberry Pi.

It seems to work well.

  RockPro64 SSD Expansion Board/SATA Shield

I know these exist for RPi4 but is there a dual SSD expansion board for the RP64 with SATA shield to mount the board to?

  Mobian and WiFi
Posted by: astrogenealogist - 08-19-2020, 08:12 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (3)

Hi - I am a very new owner of a pinephone and have been trying Mobian.  I have not installed a sim card and I am running Mobian from an SD.  I can connect to home WiFi and the UI is easy to understand and use.  My trouble is that apps seem not to be able to use the WiFi.  For example neither browser can connect to any website and Geary can not connect to email servers.  It seems as if there is some setting that I am missing or that a sim card is required.I have checked the Mobian gitlab issues and have found nothing. Any insight? Regards and thanks.

Keyboard or driver errors - transpositions & multiple chars
Posted by: marawuti - 08-18-2020, 10:29 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - No Replies

Received new PBP first week of May. I am now having what appears to be keyboard logic failures.
These include what appears to be some key transpositions and several keys that emit multiple characters - always the same.

Is there some format for providing the specifics which is pseudo standardized or at least that multiple folks could understand?

Also, I didn't expect to see this kind of what appears to be H/W or driver flaws so I didn't pay much attention to how to obtain support for this kind of thing.

PBP won't boot (no amber or green LED)
Posted by: ian-s-mcb - 08-18-2020, 06:51 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (46)

Has anyone recovered from an unlit power LED state? I've seen plenty of posts with people fixing their amber LED boot problem, but this is different. Also, can somebody tell me what it looks like when PBP is in maskrom mode? Does the laptop screen display anything? Should the power LED light up?

Here is my situation:

While using a working Manjaro OS on my eMMC, I tried flashing my SPI. I used instructions on this wiki (https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/Pinebook_Pro_SPI), but I may have followed it incorrectly, leading me to the broken state of my PBP.

Currently, the power LED on my PBP, which ordinarily shines amber then green, is unlit, but the red charging LED is lit when I plug in a charger.

I cannot boot using any of the following methods, which all were previously successful but now result in an unlit power LED:
  • microSD Manjaro OS
  • USB ARM Arch Linux OS
  • eMMC Manjaro OS
I also tried booting with all bootable devices disconnected, but that too results in an unlit power LED.

I tried the two methods of booting into maskrom mode (the one involving recovery/reset buttons and the one with the two chip pins that need to be shorted), but rkdeveloptool outputs the same message: "not found any devices." I tried two machines with rkdeveloptool installed on and two USB cables, but still no luck.

I'm seriously wondering if my PBP is totally bricked Sad

  My Daily QA - 2020-08-18
Posted by: plainenough - 08-18-2020, 05:44 PM - Forum: UBPorts on PinePhone - Replies (3)

Results: ubports/2020-08-18

Conclusion: UBPorts is not ready for pinephone to become daily driver.

Notes:

I tried testing a couple of issues today, caught wind that there was an issue on 3G calls and connecting out only once. I didn't get any audio on any call but I was able to call out on 3G multiple times. No luck for 4G though. All call audio had issues inbound and out. No MMS. Texts are stable in and out. Camera not really showing any major improvements from yesterday. Ultimate result. It failed QA. Good news, the phone now keeps time correctly.

I opened a new thread and will continue to do so moving forward.

Is UT in PinePhone same thing than in another phone?
Posted by: natasha - 08-18-2020, 05:25 PM - Forum: UBPorts on PinePhone - Replies (23)

I discovered Linux phones by finding pinephone. However, I see that UT has been before than PinePhone. So, if UT is installed on another phone (e.g. Oneplus one)  is that already a Linux phone? Or does it still need some android software?

If so, what makes PP so special? or it isn't?

Is anyone kind enough to share some thoughts?

thanks!
