Why does Pine64 sabotage office on the Pinephone?
Posted by: Peter Gamma - 06-30-2024, 01:03 AM - Forum: PinePhone Software - Replies (5)

- Does this table not show how great office applications would be on the Pinephone?

https://petergamma.org/selected-office-a...-zero-2-w/

- There is also a lot work behind this table of Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org.

- But is pulling the Pinephone keyboard from the market not an act of sabotage against office applications on the Pinephone?

Pinephone with KDE plasma - Battery drain when phone is not used
Posted by: Daniello - 06-29-2024, 12:27 PM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (1)

I have pinephone (KDE plasma mobile)

it drains battery very quickly (6 to 8 hours)
even if I don't use phone and it is in standby mode
display is turning off after 1 minute as set in power settings

but I think that some system process is not turning of when phone is not used
and it drains power from battery.
How can i check which program is still runing
discharging battery ? is there any program for checking system activity ?

PinePhone Boots but only Shows Black Screen with Backlight
Posted by: danyeaw - 06-29-2024, 09:48 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Problem: my PinePhone started only showing a black screen with backlight on, however it is booting fine

Events: I was listening to music when the display went black, and the phone continued to play the music. There was no update to software or damage to the phone.

Research: I have read posts on this forum, reddit, the Pine64 PinePhone FAQ, and I read the postmarketOS PinePhone wiki.

Software: postmarketOS v24.06 with gnome-mobile

Troubleshooting:

  • I restarted the PinePhone and removed the battery
  • I made sure the battery was fully charged
  • I reinstalled postmarketOS using JumpDrive
  • I edited the installation image to turn on SSH, the PinePhone is booting properly
  • I checked that /sys/class/backlight/backlight/brightness wasn't somehow set to zero (it is 1567)

What I haven't tried yet, opening up the phone to check the display cable. Is this the next step? Is it possible that I have a bad display?

Keyboard & 2.4G usb dongle for the Pinephone?
Posted by: Peter Gamma - 06-29-2024, 07:10 AM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (2)

The following video shows that an usb keyboard and mouse work in the shown configuration:

https://youtu.be/5cIqwIye2Q0

But small usb keyboards for mobile use are hard to find. I only found one from Poland from which I do not know if it is still avaiable.

A device which is also known to have issues with Bluetooth peripherials is the Orange Pi 5.

https://youtu.be/cBqV4QWj0lE

Crosstalk solution shows a kit especially for the Orange Pi 5. on YouTube:

https://kit.co/crosstalk/orange-pi-5

It shows a wireless dual mode Bluetooth Rii (Upgrade) i4 Mini Bluetooth Keyboard with Touchpad, Blacklit Portable Wireless Keyboard with 2.4G USB Dongle for Smartphones, PC, Table:

https://www.amazon.com/Rii-Bluetooth-Key...B07T13GLY3

Should a keyboard with a 2.4G USB dongle which is included with the mini keyboard not work as a USB keyboard?

So which keyboard you suggest for the Pinephone?
Posted by: Peter Gamma - 06-29-2024, 05:04 AM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (21)

I invested a lot of time in reviewing the Pinphone to edit text and compared it to other devices which are on the market for this purpose:

https://petergamma.org/selected-office-a...-zero-2-w/

But now that I found that it is device which is suitable for this purpose, the Pinephone keyboard has been pulled from the Pine 64 store. The only keyboard I know which has been confirmed to work by wibble is the 10 year oldGo Stowaway Ultra-Slim Bluetooth Keyboard for BlackBerry and Other PDA/Handhelds:

https://www.amazon.ca/Igo-Stowaway-Ultra...B0002OKCXE

But who wants to fold up the keyboard every time he writes a text? It sould in principle be possible to solder a keyboard to the POGO pins of the Pinephone. But small wired keyboards are very difficult to find. And the developers of the Pinephone Keyboard have already solved this problem.
And now it is not avaible again. What a pity.

All my hard work for the Pinephone in vain, such as install LibreOffice and reviewing it on my site for mobile office:

https://petergamma.org/category/mobile-office/

Since editing text on the Pinephone without a handy keyboard does not make any sense for me personally. So which keyboard you suggest to use?

Which PP distros are live and install easily onto the hard drive?
Posted by: shengchieh - 06-27-2024, 02:24 PM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - Replies (3)

In the linux/PC world, most distros are live.  The live version has an install icon - making it easy
for the user to install onto the hard drive.  I'm curious to know the status in the linux/smartphone world.
Which "smartphone" distros are easy to test, and then, install on the PP?  User-friendly distros are a plus.
(p.s. I'm not a geek - just an advanced power user - and want to distro-hop on the PP.)

Thank in advanced for any help/tip.

Question Accelerometer fail?
Posted by: Dr_Turb - 06-27-2024, 10:11 AM - Forum: PineTime Hardware and Accessories - No Replies

Hi, noob here.  I have a PineTime watch which I've had for about two weeks.  I charged it on receipt and have been wearing ever since.

Initially I was able to set it so that it woke up the display on raising my wrist; however yesterday that stopped working.  In the settings there is also an option to wake up with a single or double tap.  Neither of these works.  The watch can be woken by pressing the button, so it seems to be working OK otherwise - but does the refusal to be woken by a movement or a tap indicate that the accelerometer has failed?

Is accelerometer failure a known/likely occurence?  I've seen it mentioned once on the board.

Or could there be another issue; maybe re-starting the watch would help?  If so, can anyone suggest how to do that?

For background, this is a sealed device working with the KiActiv app on Android; so I only have access to the watch functions; KiActive should be receiving movement data for analysis offline.

When mobile data works calls don't with Sailfish OS
Posted by: albafrati - 06-25-2024, 09:28 AM - Forum: SailfishOS on PinePhone - No Replies

Hi all,
I have a Pinephone 1.2 Community Edition, I lately tested Sailfish OS that is great if compared to others (Mobian, Manjaro, SXMO) in making the battery last all day that was the biggest problem I had in 2 years of testing. Now my problem is about mobile data that don’t work at all after boot. I discovered that restarting ofono data start to work flawlessly but after that I can’t receive calls because phone turns on the screen that start flickering at the same frequency of ring tone on the calling phone but doesn’t show the controls to answer.
I noticed that via command line I can answer but there’s no audio at all. I tried restarting connman and eg25-manager but nothing works. I also tried to restart audio service but no luck. The only way to make it work again is reboot.
Remembering I had similar problem with other systems too I tried to update eg25 firmware from 01.002 to 30.006 but nothing changed. I noticed that when problem happens this error shows in logs: connmand [ofono] ERROR! GDBus.Error:org.ofono.Error.NotImplemented: Implementation not provided. I tried to restart dbus but it makes the phone unusable, no desktop, no icons, the only way to go is reboot. After reboot without restarting ofono calls are correctly handled without problems.
Anybody else experienced this behaviour? Any idea to solve?
Thanks to community and developers.

PS
Sailfish OS 4.5.0.24 (Struven ketju)
kernel: Linux PinePhone 6.5.0-pgz-pine64
