  Pinephone Freeze
Posted by: kmsgli - 02-10-2022, 05:43 PM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (14)

Hey folks, I have been daily driving my pinephone running manjaro phosh since November and overall very usable however every day or two my phone ends up frozen and needs a hard reboot (it never happens when on the charger).

I know its not off because holding power does not turn it on. I need to hold power for a few seconds presumably to shut the phone down then hold power again to start it back up (screen shows nothing). Then everything starts working as it should. I don't know how to trouble shoot this as I have to reset to get access back to the terminal to check systemctl and obviously after reboot nothing in the system journal to indicate whats happening.

Any one else having this issue or have any idea how to trouble shoot it?

  Pinewatched shipment recalled
Posted by: brian_palmer - 02-10-2022, 03:15 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PineTime - Replies (2)

DHL told me my PineWatch shipment was recalled by the company. I've never heard of such a thing. Company billed me, thinks the delivery is "complete" but my product is heading back to China. So much for paying for express shipping. Has else any ever heard of such a thing?

  Paid apps for Pinephone
Posted by: Vinibrito - 02-10-2022, 03:03 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (5)

Hello fellow human Blush

How would you go about paying for mobile apps in your Pinephone or other linux phone? Similar to how it already is for the duopoly phones? Or would you prefer something different?

I do have some ideas, but I want to avoid making this into a leading question Tongue

  Linux support for RK3588
Posted by: adiboc - 02-10-2022, 01:16 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Hello Forum,

As we can read January 2022 update regarding RK3588:

Quote:RK3588
  • Many of you have seen the announcement – the RK3588 will be made available to vendors (in bulk) later this year
  • It is a very powerful and complex SoC – full Linux functionality will take time, likely a long time

I'm not very familiar with the topic of supporting Linux on new hardware, can someone help providing a rough list of tasks needed to do, how to proceed to make running Linux on RK3588 possible? Is it totally on the shoulders of community or will Rockchip help here? According to https://www.cnx-software.com/2022/01/09/...-computer/ , Radxa will support Android 12, Debian Buster for RK3588-board this year (Q2 2022). Do you know if it is possible to synchronize work on supporting this chip with them?

Power of this chip looks like a real possibilty of having usable ARM mobile platform (phone/laptop) possible, so with some mentoring I would be happy to work on making Linux on RK3588 possible/usable.

Would be grateful for your insights.

Thanks,
adiboc

Unsuccessful using danielt's unofficial Debian installer on the PBP
Posted by: joeDoe - 02-10-2022, 11:53 AM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (2)

I'm trying to install Debian to the eMMC on my Pinebook Pro using Daniel Thompson's unofficial installation script.

When ">>>> Checking for updates" (right after ">>>> Mount special file systems")

I get the error

Code:
Err:1 http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye InRelease
  Unknown error executing apt-key

which is repeated for updates and security updates.  A few lines later, amongst warnings

Code:
E: The repository 'http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye-updates InRelease' is not signed.

which is repeated for the others.

Other Debian machines on the LAN can update just fine.

This first occured last night, and I just left it thinking is was a temporary problem with the repository.  But, it has happened 3 more times today.  I don't understand what I am doing incorrectly.

Can anyone suggest what I need to do to get beyond this?

  PINE64 Response to Keyboard Issues
Posted by: ragreenburg - 02-10-2022, 10:00 AM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (3)

I really feel like with as issues there have been with the keyboard, PINE64 needs to make some kind of official statement on it. or at the very least, put something on the keyboard store page saying that there is a real possibility that you will have to modify the keyboard for basic functionality. The issue is with the phones and their messed up POGO pins but it is too late to do anything about that, for all the phones that have shipped. Personally, I have a Pro and a regular PinePhone, I can get the keyboard working on the Pro but no charger and I can't get either working on the regular PinePhone. I've tried shimming a few different ways and the best results were that I got the keyboard working intermittently on the PinePhone but it stopped working on the Pro.

There are obviously a lot of people with these issues, just jump in the matrix chats and you'll see several people a day complaining about their keyboard not working. Not to mention, lots of people have issues with the top row of keys needing to be shimmed, which again isn't stated on the store page. I love what PINE64 is doing here but selling units that need to be modified by customers to work but not telling the customers that is very poor form.

Unable to Update Manjaro Plasma Mobile
Posted by: ragreenburg - 02-10-2022, 09:14 AM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - Replies (4)

So I got my Pro a couple of weeks ago and did the initial update with the `pinephonepro-post-install` or whatever the command was but since then any time I run `sudo pacman -Syu` it says there is nothing to do. What am I missing here?

i change the font size by the tweaks to 1.5

and now the right third of the lines is out and i can't scroll to show it

the login screen is shifted to the right as well

the top popup panel looks ok and so are some apps

but some other apps are shifted

  Setup/settings lost on reset/reboot
Posted by: GrapeJuice - 02-10-2022, 05:40 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - No Replies

Hi guys,

So ive managed to get the pinephone making and receiving call in the UK, where i'm based. The problem is that every time the phone restarts or is switched off, it forgets ALL the settings needed for cellular calls, and even the wallpaper settings! (This is when an update requires reboot/power lost due to battery drain etc)

I therefore need to do the following every time:

Set UK EE  cellular data APN for VoLTE

add Minicom (via pkcon install) and setup:
    AT+qdai=1,0,0,1,0,1,1,1
    AT+qmbncfg="select","VoLTE-ATT"
    AT+qcfg="ims",1
    AT+cfun=1,1 (to reboot modem)

set ALSAMixer Playback and Capture settings to appropriate levels (They are always maxed out to 100% and cause feedback/noise)

Test with:
AT+qtts=2,"welcome to test" to make sure audio is ok

Then it works like a charm...

So, my question is... Is this anyone else's mileage and if so, can i script this setup? (I read minicom is hard to script) Or is there a way to bake the settings into the modem/software?

OR
Do I have a faulty pinephone?

Thanks for any thoughts - loving this little toy!!

  TS-100 tips
Posted by: gadjet - 02-10-2022, 04:33 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinecil - Replies (4)

I did post this initially in the accessories section but I'm raising it again because I've bought a second TS-100 tip from a different supplier (Amazon) and I've got the same issue as the one I bought from Banggood.

Both TS-100 Tips show 300 degress tip temperature when it's only 29 degrees (I'm holding the tip in my hand) and the power goes down to 1 watt because it thinks the tip it hot enough.

I have compared the electrical circuit of the TS-100 tips to my original Pinecil one and it is different,  on the Pinecil original the top connector ring nearest the tip is isolated from the body of the tip whereas the TS-100 tip has the top ring shorted out to the body.

Can someone who has a TS-100 tip just check if their's is the same as I'm assuming this is why they don't work correctly.

Cheers,
Phil
