  yocto for RockPro64
Posted by: Fide - 04-20-2023, 06:16 AM - Forum: Linux on RockPro64 - Replies (1)

Hello,

I just ordered my RockPro64 board today and want to create a poky reference image for it.

But I wonder whether meta-rockchip metalayer here supports it?

I saw couple of similar questions in the forum but they are very old.
Nowadays we use yocto-dunfell or kirkstone and wonder RockPro64 is directly supported by them.

Thank you.

  verifying the serial console
Posted by: js0000 - 04-19-2023, 05:33 PM - Forum: BSD on Pinebook Pro - No Replies

hi

i have been trying to install openbsd on my pinebook pro (currently running a manjaro-i3 combo) and an at the point of verifying the serial console.

when i look on my linux (debian) box, i can see the usb connector (?)
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 1a86:7523 QinHeng Electronics CH340 serial converter

and can see it in dmesg (ttyUSB0)

the problem is actually sending something over- i have been unable to see anything with minicom on the other end
when i run a command like this (as root on the pinebook), i get nothing on minicom:
echo "console output" > /dev/console

and it just hangs on the pine box.

also (as i got my pinebook some time ago) it came with a cable, that i read was supposedly bad ... i tried that too, but nothing happened. the cable i am using was bought from the pine store, maybe a year-ish ago ...

i also opened the back and flicked the switch for the serial console out of headphone jack.

i guess what i'm looking for is how to verify that the link is working
or someway to know that my pinebook does not have fried hardware of one kind or another (diagnostic commands ok)

any help would be welcome

thx

  Jumpdrive broken? eMMc broken
Posted by: Uturn - 04-19-2023, 04:19 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (5)

hullo, I try to flash a fresh OS to my PinePhone's eMMC via jumpdrive, I flash from e Mac with Etcher, the Pinephone looks ok, but zero success wiht Manjaro Plasma Mobile (stays black), little success with Manjaro Gnome Mobile (stuck at manjaro splash screen). Is it possible the eMMC is damaged, or did I screw up somenthing with Jumpdrive? Manjaro Plasmal Mobile from card starts up normal.

  Accidentally updated Ubuntu/ Revert possible?
Posted by: Thisone - 04-19-2023, 12:03 AM - Forum: Linux on RockPro64 - No Replies

Hello,

I'am using the Ayufan Ubuntu Mate desktop package, and (because I'm new to this and didn't know what I was doing) I accidentally updated Ubuntu to from 18.04 to 20.04 and now everything looks wrong. Is there any way to revert the changes without reinstalling everything?

Question Always Use Mobile Data
Posted by: DingDangDoong - 04-18-2023, 11:54 AM - Forum: PostmarketOS on PinePhone - Replies (4)

Hello there Everyone,

I am messing around with using the PP to send myself email message reports with metrics from some yard equipment that are all connected on a WLAN.

I'm running into an issue where the PP will not use mobile data for internet access while it is connected to my WLAN, even though the WLAN itself is not connected to the internet.

Does anyone know of a way to set the PP to always use mobile data for connecting to the internet while also still being able to talk to other devices on a WLAN?

I got it lol Big Grin

For some reason I thought the wireless data connection would be handled differently from other internet connections but when I ran "ip route list" it was there!

I added the ip address from the mobile data connection as a default with "ip route add default via xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx dev wwan0" and now I can use WLAN and connect to the internet via mobile data!

Suggestion for a (cheap, waterproof) jog dial
Posted by: dynobang - 04-18-2023, 04:16 AM - Forum: PineTime Hardware and Accessories - No Replies

Hi all,

I'm a coding ignoramous who was bowled over reading about Wasp OS and some of the effectively live-coding videos on youtube.  Reminded me of my brother teaching himself to code on a Psion. I felt like the device is simple enough not to intimidate me (and for me to really grok the device and the code), so I bought one.  If I ever get around to learning to code it'll probably be for my PineTime!  My hats off to all the engineers, both hardware and 'software', including the folks at home learning-on and noodling-away-at these.  The work you publish even on forums like this is an inspiration.

Used my pinetime in the pool today.  Swipe inputs v difficult.  I wished I had a jog dial to scroll through options.  I imagine to be cheap and waterproof it would just be a magnetometer of some kind at the edge of the circuit board.  The edge of the case would have a knob which was, internally, a disc studded with tiny magnets, so that turning it would be detected by the magnetometer along with the direction of the turning.  If the screen was on (IE I was interacting with the watch), then it would listen for the turning of the knob.

Were it to be on a depressible button, behind a silicone cap, then the jog dial could also be used as a push-button.

I dream of a future where my phone tells my watch when I'm in work (GPS &/or wifi network recognition) and the applets accessible from the main screen are ones for dealing with work emergencies, as opposed to driving (car bluetooth recognition, when I might want a watch-face play/pause button or some such), or in the pool (touchscreen off, button and jogdial input only, and ready access to the metronome app for pacing and an app that sums up the duration my arms flail about in the pool to help me log it on my phone)... I'm sure others would have other suggestions!

Well, nowt like a half-baked idea to make the mind turn over.  Maybe the PCB just needs the magnetometer adjacent the strap connection, and someone makes an aftermarket dial baked into the watchstrap.  Hopefully something I could submit for consideration in case a PineTime Mk II is ever considered.

Yours with thanks,
DB

  Victron Energy on PinePhone Pro
Posted by: WarpLover - 04-17-2023, 11:33 AM - Forum: General Discussion of PinePhone Pro - Replies (4)

Does anyone know if the app from Victron Energy works on the PinePhone Pro?

Victron makes devices for solar energy and the app connects to their devices and their database of daily statistics.
Thanks

Rock64 PoE compatbility with Pi4 Hatt recent Single Board Computer offering from PINE
Posted by: kharak - 04-16-2023, 07:40 PM - Forum: Rock64 Hardware and Accessories - Replies (1)

Given that the Rock64 PoE is out of stock, I was wondering whether the Raspberry Pi4 PoE Hat is compatible with Rock 64? I thought it was, but am having trouble verifying.

Incidentally, is there any idea with the Rock64 PoE will be back in stock?

I am aware of "external" PoE splitters, but they are not my first choice.

Stuck Micro SIM Tray - Pinephone Pro
Posted by: 6zyNTMBKn95A - 04-16-2023, 05:42 PM - Forum: General Discussion of PinePhone Pro - No Replies

When I got this phone I tried to use a nano to micro sim converter and put the try in wrong side up and could not pull it back out.
I found this video and it worked like a charm to free the try without bending any of the pins or taking the phone apart.
