Emulator (possibly retroarch) performance on 6.0 TV?
Posted by: pqueiro - 01-23-2017, 04:16 AM - Forum: Android on Pine A64(+) - Replies (3)

Hey guys

One of my goals with the Pine is to build a little emulator machine just for giggles. My ultimate performance goal would be a Dreamcast emulator, but I'll settle for Mario Kart 64 and be happy with it Smile

So after I gave up on proper 3d acceleration in Linux (lack of drivers and upstream support I guess) I went ahead and installed Ayufan's 6.0 TV Android build, and it's close to perfect Smile

Sound works, image works, my x360 controllers work, Plex works a treat, but performance in N64 games is iffy, borderline playable at best.

So my question is: what are the highest performing emulators for the pine? I'm most interested in N64 right now, but I'll take advice on any Nintendo or Sega platform (S/NES, GB*, Genesis, Saturn, DC, etc) and even the PS1, though that's the bottom of my priority list.

Right now I have retroarch 1.3.6 installed from the playstore. I configured the basics (directories, controllers, etc) and installed a bunch of cores from the online updater; it all mostly works, but the N64 shows very poor performance. I'm assuming I could've chosen better cores where there were alternatives, and that video settings can be fiddled with.

What are the best cores? What are the best video settings to maximise performance? Should I have gone for a nightly build? Which one?

Are there emulators other than retroarch with top-notch performance? I don't mind having to choose different apps.

Would Ayufan's 7.0 Android build be a better choice? I don't mind moving there either Smile

Thanks for any and all advice Big Grin

Click on desktop Icon blanks sceen
Posted by: CreateControl - 01-22-2017, 07:16 PM - Forum: Getting Started - Replies (4)

Hello, thanks to all who contribute to the Pine64 projects
I have a Pine 64 2GB
Connected to  a display through a HDMI to VGA adapter
Android 6.0 Image (HDMI Video Output) Release 20170112 ver 2.0.1
Remix OS 2.0 Image Release 20170105

The Home screen displays perfectly, any time I click on an ICON the screen goes blank, forever.
The OS appears to be running.
That is as far as I have gotten in my first few days.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

  Pre-Configure Wifi on Pine64 without Keyboard/mouse
Posted by: bortek - 01-22-2017, 11:19 AM - Forum: Linux on Pine A64(+) - Replies (4)

Hi

Is there a way to pre-configure Wifi on any of the Pine64 Linux images (Ubuntu , Xenial, Debian etc) without Keyboard/Mouse ? I have forgotten to take my USB little keyboard with me where I am right now and therefore stuck and cannot work with it. I have a monitor and a Laptop with me though but it is not much of a help as far as I can see.

On Pi (Raspbian) it's possible to re-configure Wifi user/pass in /boot/wpa_supplicant.conf file and while booting Raspbian tile file will be copied under /etc thus connecting Pi to Wifi router.

Any idea I can do similar or other way I can connect to my PIne74 board without Keyboard/Mouse?

  P64 as relay?
Posted by: etsoft - 01-22-2017, 07:37 AM - Forum: Pine A64 Projects, Ideas and Tutorials - Replies (1)

Hi,

i've got a project running which uses an modem to convert a received signal  to an ascii string via a serial connection.
The strings are now receid on a serial port and relayed to an internet ip address and port (UDP protocol) using its intenet connection.
The settings of the serial port are specific.

My question , is the Pine64 equiped to do this (of course with some add ons)?
Where should i look and what kind of sotware shouls i use?

Regards and thanks in advance
Erwin

  Need help with boot options
Posted by: Gnx - 01-21-2017, 11:19 PM - Forum: Ubuntu - Replies (1)

Ive looked around but im not seeing where the options are for me to boot to terminal instead of the gui desktop. Id like to be able to startx into the desktop on occasion but I only use it in terminal most of the time so the desktop isnt needed all the time.

I tried the grub option but Grub doesnt exist with this image so thats no help.

Starting from 20161218-1, Xenial images now use the latest released rootfs to improve repository compatibility. Eg. this makes it possible again, to install the mate desktop environment (whose dependencies are broken when using the proposed repo like before).

Get 20161218-1 from https://www.stdin.xyz/downloads/people/l...es/ubuntu/

As always, for a list of changes and full details see the first post in this thread.

this is my image at current, using the xfce desktop. ive got ssh installed and im fully updated. I just cant figure out how to change the boot settings.

Power Supply for Pine a64 (2GB)
Posted by: Pip19083 - 01-21-2017, 02:30 PM - Forum: POT modules - Replies (1)

Hi, I'm a new member of this forum.
I joined to this forum because I want to buy a Pine a64 (2 GB RAM), but I'm not sure if I must also buy a power supply for Pine a64. My question is: I have many power supplies from old smartphones that end with microUSB-B, can this type of power supply works on a Pine a64 like the one I want to buy?
Thanks for helping.

any danger from using 2 power sources at same time?
Posted by: dkryder - 01-20-2017, 10:40 AM - Forum: DC Power In - Replies (3)

for some reason i have an issue with lacking power to boot one of my boards. if i use the micro usb power source i don't have enough power to complete a boot, after it reaches a point the boot sequence loops. if i use a power supply through the euler pins, same situation, boot loop after a certain point in the sequence. however, if i use a power source through both the micro usb & euler pins at same time the boot is always successful. after boot i can disconnect one or the other and the board runs fine. i have been doing this for about 3 weeks now without any obvious damage. but i thought i'd mention it to the group and see what feedback i get. i'm mostly interested in if i will eventually burn up the board someway but i'd also like thoughts on just why this is working thanks.

assistantpine, a working idea for a distro

AssistantPine Developement

I have been working roughly 80 hours a week, so i have had a lack of time to focus on bigger projects, aka TV64 and or ChromiumOS, but i couldn't sleep last night, probably to much coffee. but i had a good idea of something id like work with the pine community on, due to time issues on my part i will need some help or assistance for this, and it is in the very basic, i have an idea, and a very basic blueprint on a plan of action. here is the idea. In the last 4 or 5 years, the virtual assistant has grown to be very powerful, amazon, google, apple and windows all have there's. Where is the Pure Linux one? and even better answer, where is the pine one? That is what i want to try to get started, my base idea, is to work off some of the work that's all ready been done in the Linux world. SemiCode OS, is a development based Ubuntu distribution, they have done some great work with what they call Sarah. you can check it out here https://github.com/semicode-ltd/sarah and of course with amazon releasing the source code of Alexa for Linux there is promise for this idea.

Mission Statement for this Project

I want to build a small base distribution for the pine64, that then could act as a hub or a standalone unit, loaded with the AI, then this main unit could then be used to manage any other units on the same network, basically a home-kit type idea. So step one would be to strip Ubuntu down and build around with Sarah, then work with code for touch screen's etc.I will have time this Sunday to work on this idea, and some more outlining on how this can work, right now I am curious, if anyone else thinks this would be a worth idea. Also any idea's that would be worthwhile to look into surrounding this idea would be awesome.

  Update 1/23/2017
After reaching out to SemiCode OS I have been contacted by Mohamed Saif Eldeen, the CEO and founder of SemiCode OS, We are going to be working together on some features of Sarah. A full port of SemiCode OS may be in work as well.

Hey guys,
I'm trying to add a USB mic to my Linux install but it appears that it is not being detected. I am connecting via VNC and SSH. Any thoughts on this?
Here is what the output of cat /proc/asound/cards shows:

Code:

I was wondering if the gpu blobs for fbdev  are available. I did a search and didn't find anything, or used the wrong keywords.
