  PineBook specs and chassis color
Posted by: PBOOK64 - 12-24-2017, 01:03 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook - Replies (3)

Any plans on bumping the specs up in the pinebook?
Would like to know if there are plans for going from quadcore to octocore
from 2GB to 4GB, 8GB or 16GB RAM
from 64gb emmc to 128 or 126gb emmc + m.2 slot for a ssd
from bgn to abgn or abgn/ac
from hd to fhd or 2k
and is possible to do that while keeping the all-white chassis (and possibly adding a gold color choice).
If it isn't possible? What is preventing it from being possible?

  xbox 360 chatpad
Posted by: drock - 12-23-2017, 10:05 PM - Forum: Pi2, Euler and Exp GPIO Ports - Replies (2)

I have been reading up on the xbox 360 chatpad.  It appears to be a very cheap mini keyboard that communicates over a uart.  The raspberry pi community has a driver for it.  I was wondering if any pine users had an interest in doing something similar.  I am not sure where to start writing a driver.  It seems like a fairly simple interface that has been mapped out here

I get the main idea is to open a uart, process the inputs, and decipher the key presses. After that is where I am lost as to make the OS see it as a key press input.

Any interest or advice would be cool.  Thanks

Could you create an Android Laptop out of the Rock64

Pretty quick question, could I create my own "Pinebook" that is android based and uses the Rock64 single board computer.

Thanks

  SoPine Use Cases
Posted by: Diogenes08 - 12-23-2017, 03:36 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PINE A64-LTS / SOPINE - Replies (3)

Please forgive the noobishness of the question. I have been interested in single board computers for a few years now, but wish to dive a little deeper. The SoPine module interests me, as I can certainly understand it's use in projects that are big enough to make it worthwhile to make my own boards.

Bluntly, I cannot seem to find anything to 'plug it into' besides the compute io module I could also purchase. Great for testing, but it seems like I might be better off in that case just getting a Pine64.

So here comes the noob question: what else could I plug it into? It isn't RAM, so certainly not a motherboard. I have seen on these forums that people are working on boards to hold and power multiple sopines; Is there anything else like this out there already, or other examples of things I could do with the sopine, short of having my own boards made, which is far beyond what my current abilities/projects demand.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  Frustrated beyond belief
Posted by: mcrognale - 12-22-2017, 07:17 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PINE A64(+) - Replies (3)

I purchased the Pine64 LTS, eMMC 64GB module and the device for programming the module. I used Apple-Pi Baker to write what I thought was the correct image for Android and the 7 inch touch screen to the eMMC. I carefully placed the module in the slot and.....nothing. No boot no image nothing.  Will someone kindly tell me what image to use so the 7inch touch screen device will actually work in Android?  Confused

Please help.

Thanks,
Mike

Question Building a PineTab?
Posted by: wogi - 12-22-2017, 05:41 PM - Forum: Pinebook Hardware and Accessories - Replies (6)

Hi, i'm Wolfgang from germany.

Has anybody already thought about building a tablet based on the hardware of the Pinebook?

It would be great to have a large size touch display (14 inch). As operating system i think of KDE plasma mobile with concept x, to have a desktop if there will be a keyboard connected. To get a low profile casing, the hdmi und usb port could possibly be changed to micro hdmi (type D) and micro usb (type B). The battery should be placed beside the mainboard ...

It would be nice, if the RAM memory could be increased to 4GB. And it would be perfect to integrate a LTE module.

What do you think about that?

I'm curious!

  Debian Stretch + Kodi possible?
Posted by: cpocarlos - 12-22-2017, 01:08 PM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (6)

I have the Rock64 4GB board and I would like use it like a NAS with Kodi. By the moment not exist an OS for Rock64 similar to the old OMSC, xbian or other similars to Rpi.

I installed the last Debian Stretch 0.5.15-136-20171222 and try to install Kodi.
I am not a Linux expert, I just check any update and make a "apt-get install kodi". The install fiinished without any error, but when I try to run kodi (from Desktop or console) it does not start, the message I get by console is "libEGL warning: DRI2: failed to authenticate"

I tried to search related info in forums related with Rpi or arm devices but I do not have nothing clear about the error.

Does somebody know if is possible have Debian and Kodi running on Rock64? Can somebody try to help me or give me some advise?

Thanks, regards

Thinking about byuing a Rock64 and some question before
Posted by: Osiander - 12-22-2017, 07:23 AM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCK64 - Replies (2)

Hello together,

I'm thinking about byuing a Rock64 with 4GB board for my next project.

Here are the "must haves" for my project:

  • running mainline kernel
  • hardware video decoding
  • working I²S interface (just playback, so output)
  • working I²C
  • GPIO

Why is mainline a must have: the project is a kind of media center, but for a car and fully integrated into present bus system. To control and integrate them I have to implement an own kernel module for bus transceiver IC and I'm not in the mood to mess around with old stuff (like 3.x kernel).

I had a look into 4.14.8 kernel tree and find a DTS for Rock64, so I²C looks good. I²S is not enabled in this DTS, but in rk3328.dtsi is configured, as compatible to rk3066. The driver rockchip_i2s.c in sound/soc/rockchip/ defined as compatible to rk3066, so it looks promising.

Many thanks Smile

Does AP w/ hostapd with official wifi dongle work?
Posted by: Arsiesys - 12-21-2017, 06:00 PM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (5)

Hello,

I am seriously thinking to buy a rock64 with the official wifi dongle antenna :
https://www.pine64.org/?product=rock64-u...au-adapter

Can I build a stable WIFI AP in 5Ghz with this one and the rock64 ?
I am mainly worried about hostapd AP chipset support and kernel driver for the chipset RTL8812AU used by the adapter.

Thanks in advance !

Arsiesys
