What OS is working?
#1
What operating system is currently the best, meaning what OS has the most features working and more stable? I need to get my PinePhone operational to replace my Samsung S3.

Thanks in advance.

I've personally had the most luck with Mobian on my PinePhone - am currently running a custom build of it (using X and LXDE rather than Wayland and Phosh) as my daily driver. It's not perfect, but it's getting pretty heckin' close in my opinion.
A64, SOPINE, Rock64, RockPro64, Pinebook1080p, Pinebook Pro, Pinephone, Pinewatch dev kit, Pinetab, Pinecil, Pinenut, Quartz64, Pinephone Pro, and PineNote (so far)

Second the vote for Mobian. It's the smoothest and most stable release I've tried. All of the basic functions on PMOS and UBports also work, but they're not as stable as Mobian on my 3GB/32GB phone.

I built my image using scripts from https://gitlab.com/rrico542/mobian-x-recipes/ but your best bet is probably to start with the latest image from https://images.mobian-project.org/pinephone/nightly/ and give that a spin before you dive into a custom build.

There's more info on the project wiki at https://wiki.mobian-project.org/ and an active sub-forum here at https://forum.pine64.org/forumdisplay.php?fid=139

Thanks for the info, I downloaded mobian-pinephone-20200911.img installed to a 32GB SD card, booted, camera works! Notified of a OS update, installed the update and it rebooted, still have to check out other stuff if ok I will install the card from my old phone and see if I can make receive calls.

From what I have seen its way ahead of the Ubports

Again thanks

FYI, I don't think any distro has MMS functionality yet.

Thanks in advance.

Mobian works from the download "out of the box" pretty well, ya do need the correct settings,,,
the camera works but not great yet, most of the on screen apps work.

PMOS as per the factory install works talk, text, data, but not many features.

Manjaro works, but I have not used it much yet.

UBPorts, seems to work for some people.....

That just my view,  Probably best to check the threads in the forum to investigate the many distro's
As I am sure some others are also working, some of them are doing fairly well...

One thing that I have not seen yet is no one appears to have MMS working   ...   yet.

What service ? I have T-Mobile and everyone's like, "Ummm, yeah I hear you but not clear." Either that's true with T-Mobile or I have way to many complainers in my life.

Which operating system are you using ?

I have 2 PMOS 3g ram phones,
One is still post market OS operating system on ATT  (factory installed OS)
One is Mobian on T-Mobile  (nightly build sept. 14 )

I think the Mobian sounds better, but I do not think the carrier matters in this case.
But both do 'work'
