Manjaro not booting
#1
I have had my PBP for a few months. I have had Manjaro on it for over a month now (eMMC) and last week updated the mirrors (after not realizing I was looking at older urls). It went through >300 updates, some related to 20.04 I assume.

I booted it after the updates were applied with no issues, but this morning I tried booting and it sits on the orange light and never proceeds to boot. Anyone have any ideas or am I looking at a fresh install?

I gave up and just reflashed the eMMC with the 20.04 eMMC image. Back up and running.

I found the following (possibly through another post in this forum): https://forum.manjaro.org/t/arm-stable-u...els/133266

The critical post is pasted below. I was on a 20.02 image when I updated. I thought I had rebooted once, but given the fact that it relates to booting the device and the version number I was running, it seems likely this was my problem. Didn't try to fix it as I tend to save my unwilling-to-lose data on a mini usb drive so that I can more freely replace installs.
I also use syncthing to replicate critical information across multiple devices. An otherwise very limited Kindle Fire 7 can be a useful backup device with syncthing.

Anyway, hope this reaches someone before they are reading this after experiencing the issue...

Device stopped booting after Uboot update
The uboot update included a change to the extlinux.conf file. This change will be incompatible with the old 1 partition layout of some devices.
So if you are updating installs made with images 20.02.1 or older, you need to apply this fix before rebooting!
To fix this please edit your /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf file and add 2 periods in front of each first slash, like so:
Code:
KERNEL ../Image
FDT ../dtbs/ #etc.
APPEND initrd=../initramfs-linux.img #etc.
Save the file and reboot.

How did you flash the drive again without a startup prompt?

Probably booted using a microSD with the Manjaro eMMC installer image.

I tried that but it didn't try to boot to it.

If it doesn't boot from a valid MicroSD image, you unfortunately would have to remove the bottom cover, so you can flick the eMMC disable switch (#24) into the disable position, power it on with a bootable microSD image, and then 1-2 seconds after powering it on, enabling it again so that the eMMC device will be visible to the booted image.

The microSD doesn't even fit correctly in the slot.  Also I did try that but the laptop couldn't turn on with it disabled.

In what way is your uSD having issue fitting into the slot? Is the slot too narrow/slim and it cannot enter?

It goes it but doesn't feel like it is properly seated, as if it goes in "too easy", also no click.  It is nearly impossible to get it out after inserting it.

It's a common problem, especially with shorter fingernails, to have issues pushing the SD in far enough to pop it in or out. Many people carry something small with their SDs to help with that part. That SD slot doesn't have the most audible click to it, but you should be able to feel it.
